Do you think these domain names will be catching on? I'd like to know before shelling out $50 a year for a possible gem.

Unless you own a TV or Radio station, they have next to no value

A good example of one is pricedrop.tv because they sell things on TV. But those cases are rare

what about a tv show, do you think they'll stick to the .com or will tv shows eventually switch over to the .tv extension?

.tv will catch on very slow.

But actually i'm thinking of buing a .fm domain for an online radio station plus forum. I'll give it a shot.

I've been hearing this for almost 5 years now but haven't seen it yet. I think what ysf1 said was right on, anything that register needs to be branded by turning a negative into a positive.

I used to own attract.tv and was going to make a dating site out of it plus it sounded like "attractive". I let it drop a few years ago and since then it has been switching owners back to back.

I have been looking into .FM and .AM they are highly expensive and have very shady registrars

dont even waste your time/money -- both are worthless. unless you are a part of the entertainment industry or deal within it doing whatever it is you do.

the reason 99.999999% of radio stations, tv networks, etc...still use a .com and always will is because that is what the public is used to and that is what the general public usually goes with.

you try to be cute and get a .tv domain and watch half of your traffic leak to other extensions from users trying to find your site at the .com/.net extension

i'll stay away from it, unless it's closely related to tv networks, video, etc.

Yeah, if you're registering a name that has the .com available, you pretty much have to register the .com in addition to whatever other cute TLD you want.

I don't really believe that these "cute TLDs" can't be branded into traffic monsters at one point years ago I owned a dotNU domain that was beating my .com in traffic at the time

I believe that branding it "just right" can work wonders. But with .nu ... are you sure it wasn't maybe type in traffic from Sweden?

.TV is becoming popular lately, there have been a lot of new registrations lately, and the premium words are being fastly taken up, so yeah, I guess it's a good investment. .TV is the next big thing! :)

I agree it can be tough to make it with a .tv... but anything is possible if you do the right branding. I am working on a new site that is a .tv. I ended up also buying the xxxxxxxTV.com domain name to help get some of that misguided traffic since I'll be marketing the TV as part of the name...

I know it is not as good as the xxxxxxx.com, but hey, I got the single keyword I wanted so I'm going to try and see if it works out.

Plus i'm playing off the whole TV relationship... etc. You can have some fun with them if you get creative.

yes I have to agree with this

unless you own a radio, tv channel or are posting about a tv show these domains are not very hot

I guess you can also try to make a work out of these endings...

    like far.tv --- like Fart 5

but how many people run a website that has to do with passing gas 5 times?

No I really don't think they will catch on. Most radio stations I know don't even use them, they just stick to .com or the other well known endings.

I was thinking myself of buying one domain that end on .tv but that isn't smart? even if the domain name is very good?
