I see sites getting TV feeds on their site.. I was wondering.. A) Is this legal B) Is this live C) How do I do this? I'm looking to get either sports TAPE or LIVE GAMES online.
If you mean the ones like ppmate that show premiership football then no those are not legal in countries where another channel has the tv rights (so definitely the uk) BUT some of the other channels are free to air and are legal. I'm sure you can embed some of the players in a website and choose the channels.
I live in the USA, not sure which channels have rights, but I'm sure there is some way I can. I'm basically looking to air college sporting events.. would this be an illegal?
Well technically you are giving your visitors access to the channels, you are not airing them yourself so therefore you're not doing anything illegal yourself. However if the channels are pay-per-view (ie they are only available on normal tv by paying a subscription or buying a cable package) then you may find yourself getting nasty letters from lawyers, although again technically you are not airing them. If you are planning to charge your website visitors to watch the channels then that won't last long, as most sports fans know about them already. What some people do is just sell a small download containing all the links and websites. There are lots of these on ebay.
Thanks very much for the good info on legality, repped. Do you mean this ebay item would have links to websites with which I could get feeds? If so, could you link me to an example?
I can't post links cos I'm a newbie, but if you search for free cable tv you'll see plenty of examples.
