I have a .tv domain with a sport.. its basically... www.[sport].tv [sport] being a sport id rather not say... I was going to use it for a site similar to youtube but put off by the amount of bandwidth i'd need! Any other ideas to how i can use a .tv domain which doesnt need lots of bandwidth?
I've been asking the same question myself. I have a couple of quality dot tv sites that I want to develop and looked around the net for a dedicated host that provides some free (as much as possible ) bandwidth incorporated into their plan. For me it looks like I'll utilize Microsoft silverlight http://streaming.live.com I can't say or recommend this services yet as I haven't yet tried it and there could be a catch (or maybe not) with the free bandwidth. Hope this helps through
Hi just an update on the silverlight application. I've signed up to Microsoft's service but not sure if one can utilize it as a youtube clone. I found this site which may clarify this, http:///multimedia.cx/eggs/silverlight-codecs It seems like the author is trying to figure out the same thing. If you don't want to utilize the silverlight platform then you could try here, http://phpmotion.com I don't know if they can help with bandwidth but there maybe some info in their forum area to help. I might try their service if it is not possible to generate a youtube style format through silverlight.
Don't develop it into a video site There are .tv names that aren't video sites. How about a forum about that sport?
Cant really do a forum, its such a small niche but there are already 3 big forums about it. There would be no reason why visitors would use my forum.
You can try something like make videos yourself or something like video of the day. That way you don't have to hosts tons of videos because you'd just be uploading your own.
There are hosts out there that do offer a significant amount of bw these days. Have you thouroghly looked around?
I've looked into this before... I've got a parked .tv domain and I will develop it one day... I was looking at using the ClipShare script but for that you need a virtual or dedicated server... It's not big money, but it could be if the site is successful...
search for some live streaming channels and implement it in your site. i`ve heard there are some scripts that don`t use your bandwidth for streaming. or sell them to some tv channel
YouTube offers their bandwidth. Where you see the embedded script simply copy and paste into your website or blogs html area. If you are utilizing a WYSIWYG editor you can embed code to the desired position of your page. I toyed with the idea myself at this test page Archimedes.tv The problem is if the video is pulled form YouTube then it will no longer screen on your webpage as happened to the jet-man clip I had.
