This is a post that I am about to make about one of UKs biggest websites, TVCatchup.com. I run a VPN service here in Spain, it is legal to supply a VPN service, just make a note of that point to start with. I am going to make this as short as possible. TV Catchup recently blocked most VPN services so that anyone outside the UK can not access their site. The reason for this, stated on their site and in an email to me, is because of broadcasting laws and apparently TV Catchup are in hot water over letting VPNs use their service. This sounds very understandable but.... About an hour after having our datacenters blocked, we got an email from a VPN provider, the subject "Has your VPN service let you down?". Ok we would normally put this down as spam and delete it before even opening it but, the email was sent to the same email that we use for TV Catchup, this email is not used for any VPN service, only TV Catchup. We then did a whois domain search on the VPN company and TV Catchup, they didn´t match but tvcatchup.co.uk has the same registrar as the VPN company. It started to get more suspect! I made a post on TV Catchups forum with my findings as I wanted to know if they are running their own VPN service and sending the same email to all 5,000,000 members of their site. I wanted to know how and why I got the email "Has your VPN service let you down" and why most of my clients that we referred to TV Catchup had the same spam email. My post had a very valid point but I knew it would either be deleted of I would be banned from the forum, so I took a screenshot and saved it to my computer. I then went to access the forum to see if I had a reply to my post, surely enough, I was banned. I then used my other IP address to access the forum to find that I was not fully banned, only IP banned and read the reply from a TV Catchup admin. They denied everything, including the domain name whois. If I had been fully banned, all of their members would see that TV Catchup are hiding something. I sent an email to ask why I was IP banned and why my posts were now put into a moderation queue and why they didn´t just ban me out right. Their reply.... "You run a VPN service in Spain, Goodbye". Very short and very rude I thought, so I emailed them back and with every point I made, every bit of info we dug up, their emails began to get warmer. TV Catchup deny running their own VPN service but admit to having their database of 5,000,000 members details compromised. They also admit to having their website on the same datacentre as the VPN spam company, this is very suspicious! I have also contacted the VPN spam company and they say that they purchased the email list from a third party and they stress that they have nothing to do with TV Catchup, they just own TVCatchup.co.uk! I have all screenshots, emails to and from TV Catchup, screenshots of the forum posts, ban etc. Screenshots of the whois search but most importantly I have the emails from TV Catchup admitting the fact that their customer database of 5,000,000 members was available to a third party. I find myself hard done by having built up a large client database of my own with return customers every day, this has almost stopped because the VPN company that I think is ran by TV Catchup has spammed all of my customers with their TV Catchup compatible VPN service. I am totally out of pocket but more to the point, 5,000,000 emails were left available to either a third party or 5,000,000 people received spam from one of the UKs biggest websites. Thank you for reading and if you have any info, please do not name the VPN company in question because I do not want them to have any publicity, they simply do not deserve it, just contact me. Thank you.
