I've seen this come up several times and I want to set the record straight. .tv is NOT a media/television extension. .tv is the country code for Tuvalu, much like .jp is for Japan. Tuvalu commonly rents out it's domains to television companies. As far as google searching goes, when you use Google.com, you are as likely to find domain in Japan as it is to serve you a domain with a .tv suffix. By that I mean, yes, you can search and find a website with a .tv suffix, but you're much more likely to find it if you're in Tuvalu using Google.tv
I had this same concern but my experience with .ws and .cc websites are that they do fine in google outside of western samoa and the cocos islands. Do you have any data to back up your claim? I think google knows as well as anyone that these country codes are being used generally outside of their original country.
Nice one!! For a second there I thought ICANN changed their mind and changed .tv to television.. A lot of peeps have been pushing that.
