I'm thinking to start a tutorial site (photoshop, illustrator etc) Which CMS should i use for this ? I was thinking to use wordpress but its better to see others suggestions first. DarkX
I would suggest using Joomla. Joomla: This is a great system for putting something together quick and being ready to go. All the features are right there and easy to implement. The control panel is seperated from the rest of the site and looks good. The problem with Joomla is that I find it to be very rigid. Templates are alot of work to put together but there are few templates available for free or paid which can be used. The Joomla community is quite active so if you are stuck you can seek help on the forums. Wordpress: This system really doesn’t really compare to Joomla. Wordpress is much more specialized as a blogging engine rather than a general purpose CMS. I think Wordpress has a much better templating system than Joomla and is easier to customize because of this.
hi DarkX, you may check this portfolio to see websites based on xooArticles script. One more interesting thing is that any theme/template will be integrated for free. There is an example (linkaroo.net/articles/) can be found on the portfolio page.
I was looking into this too, there is a free one, but it isnt complete, its called tutorailcms and I think you could get someone to make it work, but there is also http://www.tutorialms.com/ for $100 but its the perfect script.
http://www.tutorialms.com/ Would really recommend it. Its actually quite easy to create a tutorial CMS, or even get someone to do it for real cheap.
another vote goes to joomla. joomla is design for tutorial web sites and article publishing. you can also add gallery or forums properites to joomla
i've been working with joomla lately its not good specially if the template you intend to use was made for specific modules
I checked Joomla but i don't think it will suit me. I will go with Wordpress for starting,I know a bit of coding so i can design my own Wordpress theme . Btw,What about to use a forum for tutorial site ? DarkX
Did you consider Drupal? The website in my signature was created with it in less than 2 days including creating the content (except for blog posts and comments). I will walk you through it if you need help. Cheers and happy developing!
I also use wordpress for my partly tutorial linux site (as in my signature). So far very comfortable with it. As for using forum as a tutorial site, if you are concern about generating income from your site, I believe that it is a little harder to monetize from a forum based site compared to a blog based site.
there is another site at www.joomla-tutorial.org that has a good overall joomla package that I bought. Saved me quite a bit of time.
