Turning to DP for real answers! I need to move email accounts to a new server but...

The "live chat" for Hostcentric.com is a joke. So I'm turning to my friends here at DP for some tips.

Basically I have a client who wants to move their site from Hostcentric.com to a VPS. But they want to keep the domain register as hostcentric and just point dns the the vps. Ok well I moved all the files and thats all set but I haven't changed the dns yet because....

What will happen to their 50 email boxes when I change the dns? In other words will I have to manually add all the emails to new server and reset passwords?

I need all the webmail to go through on the new VPS but I need to keep all of the passwords and old emails in their accounts.

Does any of this make sense? I am so messed up. I'll donate wordpress time to anyone with some good help and advice.

    thanks!

When you set up the VPS, and moved the files over, did you also move over all of the mailboxes? Is this a cPanel to cPanel transfer, or another panel..?

Generate a full cpanel backup and restore on the new VPS. Its easy and you will retain all old configurations and settings.

Most good host will offer a free migration assistance just incase if you need one.

sorry should have stated that in the beginning. No, it's not cpanel to cpane. God how I wish it was lol.

Hostcentric uses their own control panel (junk)

the only way i see it working is point the domain at the vps nameservers and having to manually add all the emails and re do all the passwords. its all i can think of and it sucks big time.

Yes you will have to manually add everything again. 50 emails is nothing, try moving 100,000 like I did, and it was manually.

I think you need to contact your new web hosting provider and ask them to help you. If they want you as a customer they will 100% help you.

turns out I have to add them. This is why I alway tell new clients Cpnel hosts are the way to go.

Rob they did help but it was the same conclusion. lol

Ryan, I feel for you. 50 is sh*tty enough for me. I'm a designer I'm lazy when it comes to manual stuff lol.
