Turkey orders YouTube blocked

OK tomorrow, try to insult your boss, and spread some brochures in the street telling how terrorism and molesting is a cool thing, then complain about the reactions you get over YOUR freedom of speech.

Court decides on peoples' behalf, some don't like it, some agree with it, just like any other decesion. We don't or want to have your version of freedom of speech where anything that doesn't concern you should be absolutely free. A Youtube video, an artistic one, which shows GWB being hanged instead of Saddam was removed within no more than 24 hours, or this 1, or this, or this, where were these liberty lovers back then, huh? You go beyond the limits of critism, you violate a law hence you get punished, that's how it works, not only for you!

It is in their TOS "YouTube, a video sharing website and subsidiary of Google, has a Terms of Service that prohibits the posting of videos which violate copyrights or depict pornography, illegal acts, gratuitous violence, or hate speech." Those who don't like this decesion should be angry at Youtube for not following their own Terms of Service.

Btw, noone in Turkey was jailed for speaking out, there are those who deeply criticize this decesion as well, deeper than you imagine, those whoever been jailed before have commited a serious violation which goes far beyond critism.

Whatever fits your agenda right, sometimes it's sponsoring dictators sometimes walking around with the free-speech, democracy BS.

Surely the most extravagant thing ever said on DP?! Freedom of speech in Britain? Surely not! Although us Brits are supposedly given 'freedom of speech', just you guys go ahead and do something, say something contraversial to the public eye, I'll bet you won't be enjoying much more 'freedom'.

I personally think the Turkish Government is a joke for even attempting to have Youtube banned in its country. Even their own website is just another mediocre site with a PR6. They should be thankful that their inhabitants are - to the vast majority - using sites like Youtube for both entertainment and educational purposes, not sinister reasons like some may believe.

None of you can understand the way Turks think. Because you are not Turkish, because you do not have a leader like Ataturk.

A video site, You Tube, will not earn from Turkish people when it is not obeying our rules. So simple, isn't it!

Will.Spencer: If you wanna speak in lists like 1,2,3,4 study your lesson first. Orhan Pamuk is not arrested in Turkey, he is been put to court and given chance to defend himself, as all any other people who act against the laws of the country. This is so simple. You can't break a law whether you got the Nobel or you are an homeless laying around the corner. Execution is legal in US, not in Turkey. Does this show Turkey is more of a humanist kind of country? You can't insult/contempt about values of Turks in Turkey, you probably can say anything about being an American in US, does that show we are dogs of our government? Every country have different kind of laws/regulations put in place to protect its citizens. You simply dont have the authority to judge/criticize what is right or wrong about a country, without knowing what kind of conditions the citizens of this country has been through in years or how they are living. There is an old proverb, you cant understand a hungry person if you have always been full. So we all live in different conditions with different concerns, it is funniest thing ever to criticize these things.

And if you want to reply me by quoting me, read my entire post. I already said this is not like saying "Bush is miserable", so provided that, its funny that you come to table comparing such a thing and saying you allow these kind of things in US. I am living in USA so i pretty know much what is allowed or not. Unpopular is a broad and generic term. Saying Christ is a monkey, do you think that its unpopular? Do you think i do have freedom of speech to say things like that or distribute videos over Youtube? Friend from UK saying he lives in a country with freedom of speech; Can i promote videos about IRA in UK? It will be instantly removed. So wth, there are lots of illegal things going around the world, ones that you know or ones that threat you are not the only ones. We have lots of threats too. You need to comply with laws if you wanna broadcast in a country. Internet is just another medium, not different than TV or Radio. It is that simple.

The government is not hiding something from its citizens, its justing this as an economic weapon. They dont remove illegal videos until we block them. So the court use this as a last resort, after contacting/requesting removal of illegal videos, FYI there is no one sitting on a button and blocking sites with their sole decision. Youtube's block has been removed recently, because they decided to remove the illegal videos. I guess the methodology works.

 

Alright! It's enough to Blame Turkey !!! Why it's only YouTube?? If they don't respect, then Turkish Goverment will know what to do! Some of you has said that " Turkey needs proxy websites" or saying that " Turkey is not freedom " i'm just laughing hahahahaha Turkey has got enough webmasters to built new proxy websites,even 10 years old Turkish child can build a proxy website and know that Turkey is FreeDom country. Whoever said this i think he never watchs television or never look up to Google Images YouTube is not sth important for me. If there is no youtube then iMesh or MegaVideo etc. I wish u got what i meand...

 

Youtube.com is online in Turkey. Until now there is no problem and youtube will be more careful about restricting videos against our independent leader ATATURK

 

I don't worry about youtube or etc. Will Turks lose sth when there is no youtube?? Of course no but, will Youtube lose sth ?

 

even tho i visit youtube one in a million, it's glad to see it's back, everyone knew its not gonna be blocked forever, it was blocked because youtube didn't care about the warning and many flag actions and kept the video online for days, if it was against Georghe Bush or someone else, it would be deleted in 0-15 minutes (tested and worked ) but when it comes to Turks, they don't care whatever we say, thats why it was blocked until they remove the videos, but anyways i don't care youtube

I don't know where the heck are you from but for a Muslim Turkish guy GOD, MUHAMMED (and other prophets Jesus, Moses, Abraham....) and ATATURK. God created us. Prophets helped us why we are here? and ATATURK founded our country to live under freedom. Maybe you poor guy don't have a leader like that so you can't understand it

In Turkey we manage deal with people saying bad things about our prime minister or president. Some people like them some people don't. Freedom thing

If youtube keep having that kind of videos, dont worry we will censor the entire Internet, the world to understand how important that guy is for us.

Disrespect and freedom of speech are two different things. You don't have to like ATATURK but you have to be respectful. Yeah lots of European don't like him because we have the most beautiful city(is called Istanbul) and country in the world. If he didn't exist, we wouldn't be under Turkish Government. I would rather being under Republic of Turkey which censors Youtube, than being under the British control.

I am Turkish and I live in USA as a foreign exchange student. There is no difference living in USA and Turkey. I know how wrong do you guys think about Turkey. Actually lots of people don't know anything about Turkey. I try to make them understand what the heck is going on truthfully. I hope you will understand how do we think..
