Hey everyone, I am the co-owner of Tuneshout.com. This site has been up for around a year now. The value is in all the custom code. This is NOT a script. We built our own platform based on CakePHP (freely available). It currently interfaces with PayPal for payment (set up to make instant payments to artists at the push of a button) and Google Checkout for credit card processing. Everything is automatic. All portions of the site, from artist, to new music, to genres has its own RSS feed. The domain is a premium domain name. Currently a PR 4. New artists are signing up every week. The reason we are selling is that we do not have the time to give it the marketing push that it needs. If someone could come in and make it go viral, they would have a HUGE base to start with. Currently we are hosting it on a dedicated box. Stats can be seen at http://www.tuneshout.com/mint. Bidding starts at $1,000. Increments of $100. I will set a BIN in roughly 48 hours. Thanks for your interest!
Can you explain the revenue model in more detail? And let me know if there is any existing historical revenue? Dylan
The site currently has 86 artists signed up (a couple more signed up today). There are two classes of user. An artist and a listener. The artist signs up and uploads music to the site. They can either make it free or sell it for $.89 a track. There is also an option to group music into albums and sell for $8.99 an album. The site makes money on every transaction. Credit card transactions are taken care of with Google Checkout (fully integrated into the site) and payments are issued with Paypal (artists have an instant cash out button). Listeners can sign up for free. They are only charged when they purchase music. Ads can be integrated into the site for an additional revenue stream A basic embed code exists. You can see it at www.myspace.com/bfellow202 My partner and I have done zero marketing for Tuneshout in months, but still adds artists every week. With a little be of a marketing push, it could go a long way. If you have any more questions, please post them here and I will answer them for everyone to see. Thanks!
Is site still available? How much is hosting, whats the bandwidth and how much disk space does it take up? How many active users are there? Whats BIN and when is auction over?
Been away from a computer for 24 hours. Now to update the auction: The site IS still available. We currently spend $206 a month on hosting. You could move to a Virtual box to save money, but with any promotion, you will need that dedicated box. Website disk space: httpdocs(css, javascript, images, etc.): 30MB PHP source files: 12MB Framework(CakePHP): 1.1MB Artists Files(artist avatars, album art, mp3's): 3Gigs Total songs: 600 PageRank: 4/10 Currently we have 86 active artists, 13 non-activated artists. We have 101 activated users (listeners) and 43 non-activated users. We have made sales, though it is down in the $20 range. The real power of this site will be unleashed when someone puts together a promotion behind it. I have the ideas to push it to the next level which I will share with the winner of the auction via email or phone, which ever the winner chooses. George has posted an initial bid of $1,000 to get things started. Thanks! We are posting a BIN of $30,000. We do have a reserve. Over 250 hours of development went into this. That doesn't include testing and marketing. If you have a questions, feel free to post here or for a quicker response, PM me. Thank you all for your questions and interest!
For the next 48 hours. There is pretty little interest, so I think that my partner and I will hold on to it and develop it ourselves. Though if we get blown away with an offer, than we would obviously go that route.
I like the site. Not ready to buy, but would like to offer my humble opinion on usability. 1. Make it easier to find the "Cart" button after adding a song to it. 2. Don't yell at the user by saying "You must log in to checkout" Rather, "Click here to checkout" would be better. Then ask them to log in or create an account. Good luck with the site. - Jason Green BusinessHut.com
