Tube Sites Do They Need FFmpeg

Okay I recently purchased a wordpress template from someone on fiver (But had to buy it 5 times so it equaled 25 bucks) and now that he is finished things look pretty good expect for the fact that I cant upload any videos on to the tube site if I act like a normal visitor. According to everyone I talk to this is because I need to have a virtual or a dedicated server. Cause other wise they don't support FFmpeg

My only question is this true first of all is there another hosting company other then godaddy that you might recommend

and second is it really nesscary to have this for all tube sites cause I've seen some pretty stupid tube sites and I just have trouble believing that there really spending $30 a month on these and that is for like no space what so ever.

Cause being honest I would be fine with $30 a month if I could host as much content as I wanted but obviously that isnt going happen

But my major question is. Is there another form of tube sites out there that dosnt use FFmpeg so I dont have to switch everything over to a virtual server thank you

Most of the tube sites just use the embed code to display videos. There is no need to upload (unless you have a personal need) and host a massive collection of media.

For example, this template is completly free and they host no videos. http://www.freewptube.com/demo4/ every video is hosted on youtube and they just enter the embed markup in wordpress.

If you want a youtube clone that you have to create a complete new inventory then wordpress is not the answer. There are open source projects that are designed to convert and host videos. http://phpmotion.com/content/view/13/47/ is one. You can host that on a cheap host. http://www.cirtexhosting.com/phpmotion-hosting.shtml

I had that setup a few years ago on that host and it was kind of slow. I have some video sites now with 10,000 to 40,000 videos each running on wordpress and they are much faster because the videos are just embedded. I'm running some of those on godaddy. I would recommend exclusively embedding videos if possible. Better performance and more content. If you must allow uploading you can use php motion.

There is a way to upload to youtube from any site using their api but that is outside the scope of this topic.
