Today we are marking the one year anniversary of the Indian Ocean tsunami that laid waste to coastal communities and killed at least 216,000 people.

From worst-hit Aceh province in Indonesia to the tourist beaches of Thailand, tropical Maldives Islands & Sri Lanka, thousands of survivors, victims' relatives and officials on Monday held a minute's silence at the time the waves hit, as part of commemoration ceremonies.

The Maldives was saved from the worst by the coral barrier reefs. Only four of around 100 hotels affected are yet to reopen and you'd be hard pushed to find any tangible evidence of the disaster. Those islands affected have upgraded and refurbished their properties and business is pretty much back to normal.

    Have your say.

Yeah, that earthquake/tsunami was the one of the worst disasters in history. Thinking about the whole thing makes me wonder about the "purpose" of whoever is in control of this world or universe.

You may Believe in God, Evolution, or both, but one thing you have to believe is that "something" brought humans into existence. Why that "something" would create a planet where a earthquake/tsunami kills over 200,000 people is beyond my comprehension.

My family are Christians, and believe in God. I don't really follow their faith, because I can't understand why "God" with all his/her power would allow a tsunami to kill 200,000 people when they have the power to stop it.

Someone like that can't be kind or benevolent. They are malevolent.
