Hey guys, I want to sell this design but what to charge for it is beyond me. To be clear, I am selling all rights to the design, including printing/manufacturing/whatever. So, what would you pay for it? Thanks for your time.
I would suggest taking a look at the prices that the competition is charging and try to undercut them. By checking out the competition, you get an idea of what the market is like for the product. Just do a little digging and see what you find.
$10 might be okay to sell the actual t-shirt for, but I think he is meaning selling the design so someone else can print it. Its a tough one, for example stock images that can be used for tshirt printing (limited runs) would cost $50+ these are also not unique. The buyer is obviously going to want to know how well a design like this might sell, you might stand a better chance if you had a range of designs with a similar theme. I think its is quite an interesting design, but can see limited appeal as a one of individual design, so maybe mid $xx - low $xxx. Create some additional designs and sell it as a set and you might have more luck.
Do you have any idea who their target demo is for the sale of the shirt or how many they plan on producing and at what sale price? To sell all your rights I would ask for 10%, meaning, if they're expecting to sell/produce 200 shirts (in a 1st run) and sell for $10/shirt that's $2000 in gross sales. I'd ask for $200. Obviously if it sells well and they do a 2nd run you're out of luck at that point. If you can't get any of that info out of them then highball them and hope for the best. Say $350 maybe they'll give it to you and maybe they'll counter you to $250 at which point I'm sure you'd be ok with.
