Hi all. We're a communications and media company specialised in nonprofit international clients. People like the World AIDS Campaign, UNAIDS, the World Health Organisation, the World YWCA, etc. etc. So actually, they're the ones trying to save the world. We're just here to help them do it with a bigger bang! Much of our work is done on the web with forums, link directories, blogs and cms sites. We also have a young Citizen News Network. You're welcome to come visit at http://mondofragilis.net You can also come make a promise to fight AIDS at http://community.worldaidscampaign.net And last, but not least, congrats to Digital Point for taking the vBulletin 3.5b3 plunge. I haven't had the courage yet. We're still on 3.0.7. Dying to upgrade but resisting... for now... Off to another DP forum now to ask for my first bit of advice
That's kind of funny because I was at a meeting in New York the other day at the Pfizer headquarters. Mind you it was a 'humanitarian' meeting Yup, we like what we do. It's exciting and rewarding. We especially invite you all to register on our Make the promise community forum. We really want to make a difference by getting people to discuss issues around AIDS. We need all sorts of different views. It's still a small forum but ... here's hoping we'll manage to grow it. If anyone has any great ideas on how to make it grow a little faster, please let me know. I don't have 10 posts so I can't put in a live link, but again, that url is http://community.worldaidscampaign.net Thanks everyone.
Indeed, AIDS is a scourge. I am, obviously, very close to it. Don't forget Uganda, by the way. They have implemented some very successful programmes and have also reversed the trends. As for the UN and lining pockets. I semi-agree inasmuch as the UN, and other large NGOs like The Global Fund, are not efficient but they are not as corrupt as one would think. I speak from knowledge, both my sister and my wife work in the system and I have rarely seen them put in less than 70 hour weeks. And if they are putting money in their pockets, I wish they would share it with me. Kidding aside, money in the pocket is not really the issue. The real issue, if any, is overhead and multilateralism. Overhead because the cost of doing good is sometimes too high on the pre-operational side. Multilateralism because to get something done, you have to please too many players. Every time you want to sneeze you have to make sure it won't offend Micronesia and the USA both, so to speak. But all in all, good is happening and the focus is, I believe, right. I'll close by saying one thing, if we can stop fighting phantom wars and get together around valuable causes, we might finally make this Earth a sustainable place to live You're welcome to continue the AIDS side of the discussion on our forum!!
