So, I'm trying to purchase 2 domain names from 2 different people. The first person said he wouldn't look at offers of less than $100,000 despite my showing him on 5 different appraisal sites that his domain was only worth $100-$150!! How can you get through to this type of person? The other domain is owned by a lady who hasn't used it since 2004, but renewed it for 2 years in 2007. It originally was her homepage for her business, but she's now using her name as the site. I did a search on historical pages and confirmed it hasn't been used since 2004. She won't answer my emails. How do I get her interested without offering a purchase price? Any thoughts? Cheers, Hilander domainloonie.com
The first domain owner sounds like an idiot - it's probably best to just accept you'll never get that domain. The 2nd one is probably someone who isn't a domainer, but doesn't use the computer often, either. See if you can get the whois info, and possibly send a regular mail letter to her, asking if she would be willing to sell the domian.
You're right about the first guy ... that was my immediate impression. As for the lady, even if she isn't the person looking after the domains, I'd hope she'd at least respond accordingly and then tell me who to contact, etc. Bottomline: I've got a "watching" on the domain's expiration date. LOL. Here's hoping neither of them renew. Cheers, Hilander DomainLoonie.com
Can I ask you which appraisal sites you've been looking at? I've been trying to figure out how to do that myself. Thanks.
i wanted to buy someone elses domain names sometime ago. i made software to check when the domains would be ready to buy, each occasion the names were bought by a company who then offered to sell them on at a higher price. if you wait to see if they expire, you may then find out that a domain company has purchased the name and placed a holding type page offering the name for sale. good luck!
Thanks. I do have something very, very close to the domain I want, so I can proceed without either of them, but I'd sure love to have the main root URL if I can! Cheers, Hilander DomainLoonie.com
Thanks. Ya, the best thing to do there ... if you can afford the cash ... is to Backorder the domain name through a company, such as domainloonie.com (a Go Daddy reseller) and hope that it's not renewed. The earlier you can do that, the greater your chance of getting it. Cheers! Hilander DomainLoonie.com
$100,000? That guy must be kidding. He is definitely messing around .. lol regarding that lady, you never knw if she was actually checking her email on a daily or weekly basis. Check whois, you might find her telephone number where you can contact her directly
You could checkout sedo.com, aswell as being domain parking, domain marketplace, they also do exactly what you are after, and try to convince them better than I ever could, they do however charge a fee
I agree with sending the lady a letter via the mail. That may be the easiest way to contact her and in the meantime backorder the name and why not register the .net?
I do intend to give her a call this week, as her new website lists her work phone number. We'll see if there's any luck there. As for the .NET, it's a thought of course, but I definitely want the .COM site. Thanks for the reply! Hilander www.DomainLoonie.com A Registered Go Daddy Reseller
Pool.com is very useful if you want to know the estimated deletion date for a specific domain, that's how I acquired sapphiro.com on the same hour it was deleted after being approach by like 5 or 6 backorder companies. btw for the first guy, if he isn't interested in your offer then there's no point in convincing him that the particular domain is worth less than he expects because it probably means something more to him. If you're really interested in buying it, try raising your offer a little and see if hes willing to accept your new offer. I'd say that's really how much that domain is worth.
Already did that ... LOL. Oh well. His would be okay to have, it's actually the 2nd one that I really want, so I'm going to get backordered on it, as it expires this October. We'll see what happens. Cheers, Hilander DomainLoonie.com A Registered Go Daddy Reseller
