I have just completed my first proper site. it is looking good and im quite pleased so far, just need to get it going. It is a live sports score site updated every minute with soccer, tennis, baseball etc... from around the world. I think it has definite potential for some real repeat visitors as the site is fairly well designed and the content is actually very good.

I have never made a site like this and need to know how to direct traffic, as there is a lot of potentially lucrative advertising on my site. Obviously sports and betting forums would be good to place banners, but what about buying hits. Surely to start of with this is how its done. I have been looking around but am not sure which packages to trust for targeted traffic. If anyone has any experience in this it would be great. So far i have looked at http://www.immensehits. com which looks like it does the best prices.

Should i worry about google ranking etc? How should i get the ball rolling?

    Cheers for any advice

Try sports blogs and forums. For example, if you have something worth writing about on your website, contact a sports blogger, and if he likes it, he will post it on his blog. Then the bloggers who read his blog are going to say "hey, that's a good source of information, I'll subscribe to it" or whatever, and the snowball then gets bigger. Also try social media, like StumbleUpon (maybe buy some stumbles if you don't mind), Digg, etc.

    1. Having an RSS feed would be good.
    2. I agree with ebp that contacting sports blogs and taking part in the forums would be a good way to get referrals.
    3. Sponsor some sports-specific themes (Drupal, Wordpress, forums, etc).
    4. Advertise, advertise, advertise
    5. Contact sports clubs, college clubs, etc to see if they'd link to you/take part in your site (make sure to offer them something, like sponsorship/a free pass/displaying their scores).
    6. Think of some clever linkbait tool, contest, whatever.
    7. Maybe get some of the above sports club members to become columnists for your site.

The site that comes up has nothing to do with sports scores.
