Trying to make my first sale...

    Hi

I've set up my site. Content is being added to it daily and it has Facebook/Twitter accounts that both auto-update themselves after content is added to blog. I also have a feed (with feedburner).

So everything is working, and I have affiliate banners/links around my site also.

So now I just need traffic.. how do I get traffic?

    So far I've:
    - Posted around using Twitter
    - Posted on relevant pages on Facebook account
    - Backlinked a little bit

What else can I do? I was thinking maybe signing up to relevant forums and putting my link in my signature, but not sure if that'd be very effective?

Thanks. Really want to make my first sale!!

    Hi megahold
My struggle to get traffic has been endless. Yet I was unable to get much. I have one question for you though and hope you can help. What do you use to auto update your facebook and twitter. I have been reading social marketing is hot now. I usually link my post to major social bookmarking sites like digg, stumbleupon, reddit etc. I get some traffic but not enough. I am no a very facebook person but have been thinking about doing it. Actually if you have an automated tool that submit your post to many social bookmarking sites that should give you some traffic.

I use TwitterFeed.com, but there are many sites like it.

Anyway, can anyone help me out?

I have ranked for my main keyword already, I have the keywords in the domain. That should get me around 1000-2000 visits per month with no work, but looking for more...

Personally, I found that article submissions and forum posting with good signature copy were very effective when I started out.

You should also start collecting emails and building a list if you aren't already doing so. Consistent follow ups and building your relationship with your list is vital to give you more chances to make that first sale (and many more after that).

    Thanks.

I'm not making sales directly though, only through the banners/ads which link to my affiliate, so really it's just about getting targeted traffic to the site that will hopefully convert to sales.

    I'm in finance.

Thanks again! By the way, just submitting my link to directories right now.

Cool. I'm in the Forex niche and I sell PLR content as well.

One thing you can do is to prepare a short report with helpful information and your affiliate links embedded, that will give people a reason to opt in - to get the report. Also, you can simply follow up with the recommendations of the affiliate products you want to promote.

Doing these two steps alone helped me to vastly improve my conversions, hope that it will help you do the same.

I have the opposite problem. I can get legit traffic on my own, I struggle to monetize.

My first plan of attack is to always make a youtube video and include a link to the site. You have to have something to offer that will make them want to visit. I am a developer (who got laid off) so I've just been making my own tools that are popular with the target group then make videos about said tool and they will come. Guaranteed traffic every-time.

Software tools or not, youtube will probably be your best bet to get traffic going. If you plan to go that route you need to interact with the "youtubers" in comments and such, that helps a lot.

I'd recommend picking one strategy & focusing on it really hard until you get good at it & start seeing traffic. Like for me, I focus a lot on Twitter. I've set up multiple accounts & use TweetAttack to continually build up my followers on the multiple accounts. Pick experts in your niche or other large Forex Twitter accounts & start following their users. Then I use SocialOomph to supplement & schedule a bunch of tweets to post for me; in those posts be sure to include lots of links back to your site & compelling tweets. I've driven lots of traffic that way. Plus you can also tweet promos for your affiliate offers & throw in some direct links too & make money off of them.

This is what works for me. Pick one traffic source - be in Twitter, FB, YouTube, article marketing - & really pound it hard.

Be sure you've got Google analytics set up so you can track where your visitors are coming from & judge what is & isn't working.

& like ThadBong said, make sure you've got an opt-in on your page & really push people to sign up for your autoresponder series. This is even more important than getting them to your site. If they visit once & don't buy, you've lost them. But if they sign up for your newsletter you get repeated opportunities to connect w/them, build trust, and offer additional sales pitches - both hard sells & soft sells.

    Thank you very much!

I do have an opt-in feature technically, at the top of my page there is some text you can click that then provides you with my FB/Twitter pages and a box to subscribe to my live feed (users enter their E-Mail and gets all of my posts mailed to them regularly).

You say pound one marketing method hard... do you think I could do this with forums? I.e. signup on three large forums that are related to my niche and stick a link in my signature and add a nice profile avatar on each forum and help lots of people out on the forums? Do you think forums would be worth focusing on?.. Since I have some forum posting experience..

Blog commenting and forum postings are very very effective. Not only are you driving traffic to your site but you are doing off page SEO which will help you rank for keywords and improve your page rank. You want to find forums and blogs related to your niche because their readers have similair interests. Not so hard once you get the hang of it.

I suggest you build more backlinks to your site by participating in forums and blogs in the same niche as your site. Make sure your site is optimized for your keywords too. Getting traffic to your site is a long process so be patient. You will not see it right off but as long as you do the work, you'll see results soon enough.

well you need to search more ways to bring in free traffic. one good method to bring traffic is through posting comments on related topic of your website and post your link.

You could also try submitting to the likes of the article directories like Ezinearticles, Goarticles and Articlebase
