Alright regarding your filedump site.A site like that can be quite easy to market and will probably grow viral at some point.Buy some advertising on Reddit and offer half off premium, reddit people are tech people and would most likely respond well to a site like this.Incorporate some kind of viral script where you say to people refer 40 visitors my site and get half off premium access Or refer 100 and get free premium access. These thing would help your site go viral and then once it start getting pretty good traffic on a consistent basis Remove the deal. Also if it was me I would write a press release for it can be outsourced for 40 bucks for a decent one(almost as good as them to 199) and get it submitted to some of the PR sites out there. I personally don't think you need the 200 dollar package on pr web.I hope this helped
You can't trust things to always work out with any marketing strategy. And that goes especially true when you do not understand everything that is happening.
The best way that can help people find you is through the search engines, and more specifically, through Google. So if you are expecting for more traffic, SEO is something you cannot miss these days. Personally I suggest you begin with some onsite SEO work. and here's something to help: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=1724121&parent=TopLevel&ctx=topic
Oh Pleease, if you brand your site people will find you without google and the like. SEO is slow, like playing the roulette sometimes and won't do good all by itself. Narh diversy the places you advertise/market your site. So if one of your traffic streams start to go south you got the others to keep your site rolling. That's why making some kind of branding in the visitors head is so important.
