Hello all. Been trying to wrap my brain around this, but I think I need a little help. I'm in the process of creating a small network of sites. Some are blogs, some are directories, some are e-commerce sites. Now, if I link to all of the other sites from each site, i.e., each site will link to all of the others, I won't gain alot of PR because they are all reciprical links to each other. site a points to: site b site c site d site b points to site a site c site d I know this will hurt me. However, I'm going to have a MAIN site, kind of like Jupiter Media (I wish) which will list all of the sites in the network. Now, here is my question. Should I just post one link from each of those sites to the main site, for PR purposes? Then, hopefully, the links FROM the main site will have more strength? Or, should I not link from the sites in the network to the main site, Just links from the main site to the network sites, and just work on getting IBL's to the main site? The main site currently exists, and has a PR6 and PR5 across the board. I know that if I do it carefully, I can create links to the network sites and pass some PR. What I'm scared of is this, with links from all of the network sites to the main site, will this be considered reciprical linking, and not gain any strenth? It's circular thinking, I know. I'm not counting on just the internal network links to gain PR. I will be working on relevant IBL's for ALL of the sites, but the main strength of the network, for advertisers or directory listings, will be initial PR. Any ideas on how to get the most PR bang out of this scenario?
link a to b to c in a one way link triangle. then have d in the middle, with a b and c all pointing inwards towards it.
I'm no expert...but... I would say you must also be careful of over cross-networking penalties...if they actually exist!? The 1st reciprical linking technique you mention could cause the whole network to actually lose PR. Every webdesigner site i know has a link in from each of their creations, plus usually has a portfolio page that links out to each of these sites. So i would say that a star linking strategy, like the 2nd method you mention, shouldn't hurt you and could possibley work to boost PR.
