Trying to create a Directory list site.

Hello, I'm trying to make a site that lists general web directories, I have a basic concept but I need some feedback to help flesh the idea out. I know the design has a lot to be desired but it's a jumping off point. I know most of you are more than willing to share your opinion as to what it is that makes a site good and memorable. So please, constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.
