try to sell my adult website or develop it in hope of future returns

    Hi,

    I have an adult entertainment website (youtube like) and I have recently seen a program saying that almost all the adult websites run at a loss because of the high hosting and maintenance costs.
    Mine does not cost much to host but then again I have only started and the affiliate revenue is not great ( I have not advertised in any way ).
    I was thinking of developing the website ( maybe EUR 300 worth of development and 200 of advertising ? ) and I was looking for advice whether to do it or not. Will it justify the investment ? Is there a market out there for adult websites? ( to sell it after a while )
    The main aim is to make money (decent amount) while not getting to much of a headache.
    The website is r e d p l a y l i s t.com
    Any advice and comments greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.

    The adult industry is very competitive now. It would be better to think of a really niche idea in the industry to succeed. You need to do lots of research on that. good luck

    Since your niche is about streaming video.
    If you want to save cost,then i would suggest you don't host the video.
    Instead using embedded system that link the video hosting at other site.
    This you will save a lot of bandwidth.

    I have developed sites in "certain niches" before where the original plan was to push the site hard and start a bidding war as soon as the site hit some good SERPs. Some people think nothing of kicking +$20K to buy a site that is invading their turf. Especially if you have a good domain.
    This way you get paid and get out of it before it's a pain.

    @mentos:
    My website is embedding videos at the moment and does not store them, so my disk space is low but my traffic usage seems to be rather high ( 400GB last month). I will look into saving even more traffic usage...anyway, a good point to make , thanks.

    @HomeComputerGames:
    thanks mate, really helpful tips. would you suggest I try and concentrate more on the advertising and SEO ($1000-$2000)? What would a threat to others represent? (in terms of page views, new visitors per month, active members, time on site?) Is there a standard like say after you reach 1000 new visitors a day it's worth trying to generate a bidding war? really appreciate it mate. cheers

    I have reached a dicission and I will invest a bit more money into the website to make it more appealing, I'll try to change some of the affiliate programs I have on the website and keep it for another year. If I can't seem to sell it after that I will close it down.
    Thanks for your answers, and if there are any other ideas please send 'em in.
    Cheers,
