If you're an Amazon Associate, you might be interested in the ability to easily create PDF catalogs of Amazon products. We are rolling out a beta version of a new web service called Catalog-on-Demand for Amazon, and would like to get feedback from people like you who create or use ListMania lists, registries, or tags. The url is www.catalog-on-demand.com/amazon.

You can create as many catalogs as you like for free, as long as the catalog contains no more than 25 products. You can enter your associate ID to ensure that you get your referral fees when readers click on the links in the PDF. Plus you can monitor customer interest with reports that track which customers click on which products.

We would appreciate receiving your feedback and suggestions. We're particularly interested in learning whether you think this will have any value to you in your business or personal life, and what other features might make it more useful or friendly. Please post your comments to www.catalog-on-demand.com/support. Thanks!

I gave it a try and am quite impressed. This service has the potential to increase affiliate sales.

    A few things though:

    1) I ran the free (<25 items) version which promised no ads. I still got ads.

    2) I'd like to see the Amazon logo on first page in higher resolution and linked to the Amazon homepage with the associates id, of course.

    3) The terms binding, floppy disk drive description and a few other labels should go or get changed.

    4) The 'Buy from Amazon' buttons needs to be in higher resolution also. They're quite ugly viewed at 150%.

    5) The redirect links maybe shouldn't be quite so prominent.

I'll try it again in a few days.

    Hi Denovo,
Thanks for trying it out and for your thoughtful comments. Much appreciated!
    1. This has been fixed - though the inside covers (both front and back) will eventually be places for ads. We really don't know how this is going to unfold. We're just experimenting to see where this will go.
    2. We're looking into a way of doing that without making the whole page linkable.
    3. We've gotten rid of those terms.
    4. We don't see what you mean about the "Buy From Amazon" buttons. These are EPS images. I have seen them zoomed to 800% and they look perfectly crisp. Please check them out again and let me know if you still see a problem, and if possible, send a screen shot. This is weird.
    5. I assume you're talking about the very long URL's that appear when you drag your cursor over the "Buy From Amazon" buttons. We agree with you, but making this shorter is not scheduled for another 2-3 months.

Please feel free to try creating more catalogs to your heart's content and let us know what you think!
    Thanks!

Yup! Much better. Ad placeholders are gone. There a few extra white pages and I am still seeing this under a camera description:

    Floppy Disk Drive Description: None

The Amazon logo on the 'Buy From' button is still very low res.

In conclusion, a bit of editing in Acrobat and it's very usable.

Did I mention that the redirect is very cool!

    Thanks for checking back.
    1. Extra white pages: There are two in your pub. The first is the inside front cover, which is normal for most publications. You normally want the content to begin on a right-facing page. The second is the inside back cover. I think for the future that will either be ad space, or we'll allow the user to upload something.
    2. "Floppy ..." We'll get rid of this!
    3. Amazon logo. I can't figure out what you're seeing. Attached is a screen shot at 600%. This is an EPS from Amazon, and we see it crystal clear. Can you please attach a screen shot of what you're seeing?
    4. We don't expect users to have to do any Acrobat editing at all. What in particular do you need to change? Of course, we can make anything configurable.
    5. Glad you like the re-direct. Have you seen the reports yet?

We'd like to publicize this to Amazon Associates, Merchants, shoppers, and others. We're willing to pay something for this publicity -- any ideas? Please feel free to contact me directly.

Wow, this makes no sense to me. We're both viewing the same PDF via Adobe Acrobat, right? I'm using version 8.1.0. What are you using?

It would be great if someone else would jump in and let us know if you're seeing the same thing that denovo is seeing. Please download "www dot catalog-on-demand dot com slash amazon slash samples slash Power_Tools_to_Live_By.pdf" (sorry this site won't let me post URL's yet) and zoom in on one of the "Buy From Amazon.com" buttons. It should look very crisp and clear at any resolution. Please let me know what you see, which version of Acrobat you're running, and what OS you have. The button art is an EPS file from Amazon, so I am very puzzled by what is going on.

Whoops! I was using an old version of Acrobat. I checked my catalog and the demo one you mentioned in Acrobat 7 and 8. They look great! The buy buttons are fine.

Whew! Catalog-on-Demand is used to produce thousands of PDF catalogs, brochures, and flyers, and you had me worried that something was seriously wrong! Glad it was nothing more than updating Acrobat. Let me know how it goes. Also, I'd appreciate seeing the "after" versions of your catalogs. It will help us understand what features we need to add. Thanks.
