Is it usefull to apply for one of the privacy programs from TrustE, BBBOnLine or VeriSign, and show the logo on my website? How much are these logo?
These companies will all claim great benefits to using their services, but definitely at a cost. It is important to ensure your customers feel safe when they are shopping at your site. Verisign provides secure certificates at a price that is absolutely ridiculous. They are no more secure than any others, but they cost about 20 times more. I would not recommend verisign. Personally I think the BBB is the best service for the price. It was created in the retail world, so to me it has more value than an online only service. It is also recognized by more people because it has been around longer in more industries than any other service. If you are an online only business truste is good, but I dont think as many non-technically inclined people recognize it. I think it is normally more expensive than BBB anyway.
It's always a good thing to show these kind of logos and of course if you are allowed to. BBB is a good thing to show on your website if you are selling stuff on your site, i am from the netherlands and if i would be really interested in a product or service i would definately start there to start with my research on a company. Any online business needs to be open with their info and if i find it difficult to find any information about them and i only can contact them through email then they are not worthy in my oppinion especially if they are not well know. Showing a BBB logo and being officially registered with them is a first step building a reputable online business.
I completely agree with this. Make sure that your company contact information is readily available and have a phone number that actually connects to a person. We probably get as much as 30% of our orders over the phone but still directly from the website. On a personal level, if I cant find contact information and an address for a business that I am shopping online at, I will not purchase from them.
Edz, you are from i am from the netherlands? I found on https://www.bbbonline.org/reliability/apply.asp "The company must be based or have a physical presence in the United States or Canada.". So it is not possible to get the logo, if I'm not from US or Canada :-(
That´s to bad because it would always look good in my oppinion. However i don´t know if Verisign is that much expensive compared to others? but this would be a good indication of your site being trustworthy to some degree, better something then nothing at all The difference you are paying because it´s more expensive then other ssl certificate providers gives you the right to display their seal/logo and in my oppinion it´s worth it. You would be giving your future customers more confidence. Is it really that much more expensive? Would the money you would be spending more in your eyes worth it to gain more confidence for your visitors/future customers? and therefor making better conversions?
SSL Prices (Standard, Pro) Price per year: Verisign: $600 or $1200 Geocerts: $99 or $139 Godaddy: $29 or $89 To me, it really is that much more expensive. $600 vs $29, or even $100. Thats a huge difference, for something that does exactly the same thing as the others.
It is as i see much more expensive...$1100 more at the most. But look what you will get in return, a logo that proves your site is to be recognized as a secure site. Verisign is the company or logo that i have seen many times and it does gives confidence to buy on such a site that holds this type of logo and verification. Depending on the profit a site makes yearly or the prospects of a sites profit anually i would have to say that's what for me would decide to go with verisign yes or no. But jeez what a difference
I do agree that the extra confidence could easily pay for itself. On the other hand, it could be a complete waste of money. I think especially for a startup companies, the extra money is a little too much. Also for a very well branded company, the extra confidence isn't going to do much. IMO the best sites would be middle sized sites that don't yet have a very strong brand, and their customers just need that extra little boost to get more purchases. They should already have good sales, and the cost of the SSL definitely shouldn't break the bank
Actually I messed that up: Verisign: $349 / $995 Still a lot but not quite as much. $349 is much more do-able for a 1 year SSL than $600.
