    Hi all-

I'm working on launching a web business soon that will have online sales (through PayPal/Google Checkout) and collect user info.

I've found the following trust verification sites/seals that are inexpensive/free... can you tell me which (if any) are most reputable and if there are any to avoid?

    Thanks!

If they're free they're worthless. The only ones that I think would possibly provide any benefit would be Verisign, Truste, Mcaffee, and BBB.

    Here's an artcile I wrote about them a while back - http://www.ecommerce-blog.org/archives/what-is-a-trust-seal-actually-worth/.

If you do decide to add one, make sure to do some comparative testing to ensure that you are actually getting an increase in conversions. Adding too many and junking up a page or checkout system can hurt conversion rates.

The only one I've ever actually seen used before by our customers is the iSafeSite one. You would probably be better off with something well known like a hackersafe seal from McAfee. They say the conversions increase quite a bit with something like that but I've not seen the actual results myself.

If you are only doing payments through paypal and google checkout a seal is probably unnecessary as the users wont be entering information on your website but rather on the third party website and paypal and google checkout are very well known.

Well, I know that ITMSecure.com is rather respectable trustmark. Try to use them. I'm not sure about those from your list.

Never heard of them, they are really such a sham but for the internet novice they might fall for them meaning something.

I would use your SSL cert maybe and trust-e if you can afford the hugely over priced service.
