there are some questions in my mind regarding domain names and their realtion with google ranking. A-- google takes into consideration the amount of period for which a domain has been registered and subsequently rank it accordingly ( a domain name registered for 5 yrs has a better chance of ranking higher than a domain which has been registered for only a year or two). if it's true should one go for 5 yrs registeration. B--google takes into consideration whether domain is hosted on a dedicated ip or a shared one . ( domain with dedicated ip will be rarnked higher). c-- google does not care much for .infos(if everything else is same , google is bias towards .coms)if it's true than wouldn't it be wise to take a .com and add a suffix or prefix , rather than taking .info all senior members please weigh in.
Myth A-- Plausible, but I have no knowledge of anyone at Google confirming it as fact. (But someone else may have) Myth B-- Never heard of this myth.. but I can not see how a dedicated ip would make content hosted on a server any more or less relevant to the search term. Myth c-- Busted. Google is not biased... info, org, com or net, it doesn't matter. Domain extension does not affect your ranking. Content as well as On site and off site SEO are the biggest factors. Cheers James
thanks tattooo for your reply about pointA , well the belief is that google thinks that a serious website owner may have good and original content , and serious website owner would register the domain for 5 yrs and rest are here to just make quick adsense money and threrfore rgister for a year or two. about point b i read it somewhere not sure where. about point c rarely we see a .info domain with pr1 or 2 , most of them are .com.
There are strong cases and plenty of evidence that suggest A and C may be true, but I've never heard anything credible about B.
In my opinion the age of domain doesn't make any significant difference but if a content rich website used that domain for some years it may rank well in google. So only content matter. If you are selling digital camera and got a domain name (expired) like electronicsgoods.com then it does not help you rank well.So rule is your domain should contain "Keyword" and you get a good rank. Extention also very important for your domain , if you are selling something then .com is a good choice , but if you are only providing content to your visitors you can use other extension. It doesn't effect your ranking. just my 2 cent Amar
so, if you have keyword.info ,than should you go for .info or add prefix or suffix to the .com keyword and get .com domain.
