Wahhabism is a subset of Sunnism which preaches against innovation, change, and idolatry in the form of respect for persons such as prophets and saints. Some Wahhabists are Islamist; some Islamists are Wahhabists.
Ok now I get it, thanks for the explanation. This means that there can be Wahhabists that don't want to kill christians/jews/atheists, right?
Yes. There are also Shiites who do want to kill all non-Muslims. And, of course, the Muslims seem to spend far more of their time murdering rival Muslin sects than they do murdering either Jews or Christians.
Are you referring to little willy? He really doesn't want to kill anybody because he will be too scared to come out from under his bed to do it, he just can't separate between his x-box war games and the real world.
I don't claim to know much about religions and the problems they bring, but I personally think it all comes down to insecurity. People are living their lives by books. The Bible, Torah, Koran etc. I don't follow any religion, but then that's because I require things to be proven to me before I will believe them. Other people have faith, which is fine in my opinion.....each to his own. But some people get too deeply rooted in what they believe. For there to be other religions with followers that believe as strongly as you do, it begs the question that I think un-nerves some people with a faith.... ...what if I'm wrong, and they're right? For most people they are content in what they believe and they don't question their faith when others have different beliefs. To those that are unsure.... your religion is a threat. You are the possibility that they have lived their whole lives acording to a lie. Just throwing in my 2 cents..... it is the only reason I can think of why fanatics would want to, or indeed feel the need to, wipe out "non-believers". We'll all know soon enough who was right or wrong, if indeed it is a case of being right or wrong......so why not put religion on the back-burner and enjoy life while we're here.... you can come and say "I told you so" in the next life
If being peaceful and tolerant of other peoples' beliefs is a sin... then I think that religion needs to be questioned. Everyone has the right to their faith...but in my opinion, the boundary to your rights and freedoms is where your actions start having a negative impact on other people.
LoL..Don't worry..I don't even live in Middle East and I don't kill people or have so much hatred like you LateHorn.. Hehe..
Not muslim, but those People you considered "Islamists" or people who joined clubs called "sects"....
I don't know about that. The Shia's and the Sunni's seem to have a lot of excuses to murder each other that have nothing to do with being Islamists. Of course, you may consider "Sunni" and "Shia" to be "sects" -- in which case you are correct. But... is there a Muslim who is not a member of any sect?
How If I say there are thousands of them? Including me? The reason why you don't know much about us is because ..Goverments, "Ulama" etc.. considered us as the people who are "misguided"...They will send us to prison, or in some countries, they will even kill us...Just like when they banned all the Koran translations that are different from their understanding/translation.. Just like in Christian, where you have some people who are never a protestant/ Catholic or anything...I know such groups in my place..They study/research Bible independently....They got no church (I mean they have a place for them to gather..but its not a Church like we understand), do not celebrate Christmas etc and They don't have such thing as "Priest"...or believe anyone is a "Saint" and can forgive anyone sins...I used to spend my time with them discussing about things and stuff...They told me they had the same problem too..I mean...Other Christians considered them as "People who are misguided" ..
In Christianity, everyone who is not a Catholic is a Protestant. You're just sort of lumped into that super-sect. Within Protestantism, there are innumerable sects. Presbyerians, Episcopalians, Anglicans, Baptists, Methodists, Seventh Day Adventists, etc... And then there are Protestant sects that are even further out, like the Mormons. So, you're not a Sunni or a Shia? Who do you believe was the legitimate successor to Muhammad immediately after his death?
Well, the question is, who is "Muhammad" in the first place? Most of the "Sunni/Shia" based translations considered it as a "person" named Muhammad...I think I posted after you pointed to me the Surah that contains the word "Muhammad" a link to a discussion.. here it is again.. http://www.free-minds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5177 Anyway, talking about who I follow, I don't follow anyone..I research all the scriptures when I am free.. I mean Bible, Koran, Hindus scriptures like Gita etc and also the teaching of Buddha and follow things that I have verified/fully understood with no doubt...When talking about understanding it..Its not only about taking 1/2 translations and blindly follow it like others or to consider it as the correct one....Instead, I try to understand the meaning for every single words and take the one that is the best as we must understand the first Koran is never in Modern Arabic as Bible is never in Modern English and the fact that language/translation normally influenced by Ulama/rulers/sects... http://www.free-minds.org/articles/science/language.htm <--- you must read this articles...its about the "language" used in Koran... You see, its simple...Take what you understand and leave what you don't till you understand it...and to understand is not to blindly follow what other people say/translate/do....
Wowza, no wonder fundamentalists want to imprison or kill you guys. You guys could be more dangerous than an entire division of U.S. Marines. My wife, who speaks fluent Arabic, tells me that true Arabic has not been allowed to change since the writing of the Koran. Of course, she's from a strict Sunni background. You two are like Catholics and Unitarians.
Just like when I was told not to question anything related to religion, and that I can't study Koran by myself and I will go to hell if I don't follow hadith...
