    hi there,

my first post here at digitalpoint. I am seeking help here, I hope I get some here :)

I maintained a website for the last 5 years with a hosting company. the website was designed with the popular CMS called " Joomla " and it was integrated with invision power board forums. We had over 2000 Members.

Earlier today, the hosting company was doing some up gradation and in the process they lost all my data. When I contacted the support group they keep uploading off and on pages from cache and expect that I will be fooled. The database is screwed no login/password available etc.

    my site is : ayubians.com/amc and ayubians.com/forum/

The hosting company does not seem to have any proper backup and unfortunately i dont either.

In this case what kind of compensation should i seek from the hosting company. I might need to hire free lancers to re develop the site over from scratch.

Please help me deal with this stressful situation.

I forgot to mention the hosting company did issue an apology which explains they were faulty.

Well, I would get this situation squared up and switch hosts.. You might want to get an estimate from some freelance people at one of the various freelance web sites. Then go to your host with the estimate and go from there..
    Regards,

The compensation depends on the terms of service. Usually the cheaper the hosting company is the lower are the guarantees.

Just move hosts. Most of the time they cover themselves from prosecution in the TOS. You'll probably find a "we do not guarantee backups" in it.

I had that happen, it was huge database of a directory.. it made me give up on the site entirely. I now know that it is absolutely imperative to backup your site files AND the database on a regular bases. I love wordpress for this, there is a plugin that will do that for you and email you the copy or keep a version on the server. wp backup or something it's called
