Trouble with AdLinks

I tried posting a horizontal adlink script on my website, but nothing showed up. It said "ads by google" and then had a blank input box.

Thoughts?

Don't worry about it. Google needs to run another pass on your site with its bot, and then it'll send you relevant links. Check back in tomorrow and you'll see working links, I bet. No need to be alarm. P.S. Use Adsense's collapsible feature, which you can find in the CP when you're generating new ads, and it'll "collapse" the ad, leaving no blank spaces or the message you saw if there is no ads.

I might just be an idiot, and it might just be "collapsed" until something shows up.

 

I am having the same problem with the link units. I input them on a few pages and many are only showing 1 link (others show 2 or 4). I thought a day or so would fix it, but they are still showing that way. I have no problems displaying other types of adsense ads so I am not sure why this is happening. I feel there is enough content to generate ads. I am thinking of removing them since they kind of look strange.

 

Interesting. Hopefully mine doesn't turn out as bad as that. I'm pleased with the ads I DO get based on content (political ads that are both conservative and liberal. Sweet.)

Anyway, my other ads are also very relevant so that is why I can't understand why these are not displaying. We'll, good luck with yours!

 

You have the alternate color function on, so it defaults to empty white when there is no ad. That's why nothing is showing up. It's just a blank white spot where the ad would go. Get rid of the "google_alternate_color" line in your code, or change to another color, and you'll see the default ad (which is "Ads by Google" followed by an empty search bar). Or use the collapsible feature and it'll "fold up" the empty space, leaving none where the ad would go.

 

I didn't see the "collapse" feature. How do I add that?

AdSense for content -->
Ad Unit (or Link Unit) -->
More options (at the bottom) -->
Alternate ads or colors -->
Show ads from another URL -->
(insert the URL of your Google collapsible script which you can get here)

Just upload the collapsible script into your server (anywhere you want) and then have the ad code "call" it everywhere there isn't an ad available, and it will collapse the ad instead of showing a blank spot where the ad is supposed to go.

P.S. I notice that you're not using channels. I would recommend giving each ad placement its own channel so you can keep track of which ad placement does well, and which doesn't, and then change locations of ads accordingly.

P.S.S. You really need to give serious thought to compressing your images. The site still takes much too long to load, even on my broadband.

 

I thought I did. I have two channels, the one from the main page, and then the one for the forums.

Will be doing this soon. So definitely is advice I will be heeding.

 

You can, and should make separate channels for all of your ad placements. For instance, if on the front page you have a skyscraper and adlink, give them their own channels, so you'll know where the money is coming from -- the skyscraper or adlinks, etc. This is a great way to weed out the non-performing ads. It's all about testing, testing, and more testing.

You can go to the " AdSense Setup " tab and click on the "Channels" and create new ones for each new ad placement, or you could just do what you normally do to create new ad codes, but when you get to the "Channel" part, click on "Add new channel" and Adsense now lets you create new channels on the fly for the ad you're currently creating.

BTW Your adlinks are showing up now. Easter egg ads! LOL. You'll need to give Google time to visit your site often enough to send you relevant ads. It'll take awhlie if your site is relatively new, and Google still hasn't pegged you for constant visits yet.

 

Also, unless you are rich in keyword content there wont be any ads to display. Remember, only relevant ads will show, or Hurricane Relief ads if you don't have enough keywords.
