    hey all

i've been trying, to no avail, for a week now to fix my current site layout!
i have a website that i wanted to be always centered with fixed width 800px,
but i could not to do it right bcs i have several elements inside the page positioned in certain locations which always messed up,
so i decided to use javascript and send a screen width variable to the page, and with php use that to calculate absolute positions, it worked fine, but it turned out very inpractical later on,
so now i want to get rid of the absolute position method so it works on any resolution with all elements to remain correctly positioned
i think this should be easy, but for some reason cant figure it out

this is a picture of the layout: http://www.collegendl.com/cndlpage.jpg

i tried several ways to get it without absolute positions, but didnt work...i tried floats mainly with relative positions, but being not that experienced in css, only absolute positioning worked for me (when passing the screen width as a variable)

i was able to set the main elements (background photos) of the page correctly, but my main problem comes with layering the rest of the elements (logos, pics, menu):
the top left logo is a flash animation layered over an image, the center image is also a flash animation layered over the background, so is the small logo on the right
then i have the menu absolutely positioned in 2 divs, same for the search bar

so if anyone can give me pointers on how to fix that, or a solution
the page is basically divided in 4 sections,
-top left with a layer over it having a flash animation (i need to specify the position)
-top right with 4-5 elements that i need layered over (and have the positions specified, which are top & bottom menu, center image, logo on right, search bar+the print icon, and the flags on top)
-lower left which is basically just a continuation of the top left part, but i have below it a couple of images, which i currently have positioned absolutely
-and the lower right part which has to contain all the text & contents

the current page can be checked here:

to login, username and password are: roylena

the page elements are in http://www.collegendl.com/site/images/layout-new/

You x-posted here just six minutes after posting here. That is impolite, and shows a disrespect for people's time and effort.

Since you are already receiving competent help over there, you should ask a moderator to close this thread.

The point is that by posting to multiple forums, you have disparate groups working on the same thing. That means a duplication of effort. Don't you think you owe the people who try to help you a bit of respect? Why would you have them waste their time doing the same thing as others? Why is your time more valuable than ours?

Had you done your homework, you would already have been familiar with the various forums and lists, and you would have known which was most likely to provide a timely and accurate response to the particular problem.

    i see
well if it'll be causing problems, delete the topic
but i think it's up to whoever is replying to decide to tip in or not, whether it's the same topic or not, it's the same time period that will pass before an answer is posted on the issue or mentioned it is resolved, in other words, no one is wasting any extra time as such

Aw, c'mon. How about mowing my lawn? Another guy just finished, but having the both of you do it doesn't hurt anything. Buy a clue.

I am not a moderator on this forum. I am a mod on CSSCreator, and had the first response been here on DP, I would have locked the other.
