Hi all, I have a site with a keyword that I am targetting - "Keratosis Pilaris", site - http://www.bumpsonarms.com Usually i have no problems getting my sites to rank well but this particular keyword seems to be stuck in the high 300's. Currently ranks around 359 which is no good. Can someone check the site and see if I missing the blindingly obvious here? The site ranks well for other keywords and google sends plenty of visitors just nothing from this keyword. Thanks
Some things I have found to be helpful would be to have Keratosis Pilaris as the title and in the first sentence of the first paragraph (in bold if possible). Also, you could put descriptions with the keyterms on the jpegs and also name the jpegs something like kreatosis-pilaris1, 2 & 3. This should help move you up the ranks a bit. You are going up against some pretty stiff competition when you are trying to rank for a medical term. There are many sites out there with high pagerank and a ton of content, so I would think you are going to have a hell of a time trying to get on the first couple of pages in Google.
Try getting some links to your site from high PR websites, that will surely get you results, the competition is not so stiff.
its not just links he needs, its as cre8tivemedia said rejig the title, get your keyword at the beggning and change the main heading of the page
Well I went to Yahoo! and searched for link:bumpsonarms.com. I can see that according to them you have 231 inbound links to your entire site from external sites... 229 of which are to your home page. So I took a peek at the inbounds... http://amamasblog.com/2008/04/18/keratosis-pilaris/ (Blog comment - link text="Jordan" - NO FOLLOW) http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/04/06/who-you-callin-a-chicken/ (Blog comment - link text="Jordan" - NO FOLLOW) http://www.duanemoody.com/2008/02/product-edorsement-burts-bees-carrot-n utritive-lotion/ (Blog comment - link text="Jordan" - NO FOLLOW) http://www.linkpremier.com/rss.php?c=227 (DIRECTORY - Link Text="Bumps on Arms" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.mydirectorylive.com/Health/Diseases_Conditions/?s=H&p=1 (DIRECTORY - Link Text="Keratosis Pilaris" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.mydirectorylive.com/Health/Diseases_Conditions/page-6.html (DIRECTORY - Link Text="Keratosis Pilaris" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.alldirectlinks.com/Games/Gambling/Health/Diseases_and_Conditions/?p=7 (DIRECTORY - Link Text="Bumps on Arms" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.seofriendlydirectory.co.uk/health/diseases_and_conditions/page-10.html (DIRECTORY - BROKEN LINK - Link is invalid) http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?p=13524850 (FORUM POST - Link Text="http://www.bumpsonarms.com/" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.submitsitenow.info/rss.php?c=298 (DIRECTORY - Link Text="Bumps on Arms" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.findsome.info/index.php?c=217&p=26 (DIRECTORY - Cannot find your link on this page any more) http://www.findsome.info/index.php?c=217&p=27 (DIRECTORY - Link Text="Keratosis Pilaris" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.techknowledg-e.net/Health/page-10.html (DIRECTORY - Link Text="Bumps on Arms" - INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080729200209AAdfciH (NOFOLLOW) http://www.brandibroadnax.net/health/hospitals_and_medical_centers/ (DIRECTORY - Link Text="Bumps on Arms" - INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090106192742AAtXHRt&show=7 (NOFOLLOW) http://www.alldirectlinks.com/Health/Diseases_and_Conditions/?p=7 (DIRECTORY - Link Text="Bumps on Arms" - INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.dxout.com/Health-and-Fitness/Conditions-and-Diseases/page-2.html (DIRECTORY - Link Text="Keratosis Pilaris" - INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.greendoc.net/view/96985/bumps_on_arms_perhaps_you_have_keratosis_pilaris (Link Text="Bumps on Arms" - INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.artipot.com/articles/183373/bumps-on-arms-perhaps-you-have-keratosis-pilaris.htm (ARTICLE SUBMISSION SITE - Link Text="Bumps on Arms" - INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.bluearticles.com/Article/Bumps-on-Arms--Perhaps-you-have-Keratosis-Pilaris/111913 (ARTICLE SUBMISSION SITE - Link Text="Article Source" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://contentdig.com/health/diseas...-arms-perhaps-you-have-keratosis-pilaris.html (ARTICLE SUBMISSION SITE - Link Text="Bumps on Arms" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.discoveryarticles.com/ar...Perhaps-you-have-Keratosis-Pilaris/Page1.html (ARTICLE SUBMISSION SITE - Link Text="Bumps on Arms" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.rightbiz.com/Article/Bumps-on-Arms--Perhaps-you-have-Keratosis-Pilaris/157984 (ARTICLE SUBMISSION SITE - Link Text="www.bumpsonarms.com" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.applicationuniverse.com.my/articlesubmit/?a=articles&p=17235 (ARTICLE SUBMISSION SITE - Link Text="Bumps on Arms" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) http://www.jpservicez-searcharticle...on_Arms_3F_Perhaps_you_have_Keratosis_Pilaris (ARTICLE SUBMISSION SITE - Link Text="Bumps on Arms" - NOT INDEXED AT GOOGLE) Notice that you have about 6 links above (the ones in italics) that are being counted by Google, and all but I think 1 of those have "Bumps on Arms" as the link text which is not going to help your rank for the term you want. Only 1 has "Keratosis Pilaris" as the link text. The rest of your 200+ inbound links are all from forums.digitalpoint.com forum posts... forum sig w/ link text "Bumps on Arms" which are basically worthless links. The links are from non-relevant pages. If anything they may add a tiny bit to your PR, but will not help you rank for the term at all. You need more followed links from relevant pages with the link text="Keratosis Pilaris" from pages that are IN GOOGLE'S INDEX if you want to rank at Google for that term. The way I see it based on the backlinks known to Yahoo! is that you have exactly 1 such link at the moment.
Well, canonical sounds like a true pro. Great breakdown. What I am about to add is a bit more difficult for most of us to do, but you just need to focus on one thing. Ready? Here goes.. For the next 8 weeks, stop thinking about getting a Google PR, stop thinking about yourself and just provide as much unique information that will truly help your site visitors. Include the words "free info" every now and then and talk to your visitors through your content. Write something new and informative everyday on your keywords "keratosis pilaris". Take care and all the best
Well it is not very competitive You can easily rank high on that specific KW. Just get quality links that are from related sites and that will be it! Don't waste too much time on posting to forums 'coz it is not that powerful compare to other link building methods. For now, I suggest you build links through blog commenting. There are high PR and credible blogs that auto-approve comments, in that way, you can earn fast one-way link. Hope that helps!
