I've seen a couple of pretty recent threads about this topic in general, but none contain the solution to my problem. I run a blog about marketing. I have a decent number of readers, get picked up from time to time by other blogs, use Moveable Type, and have followed Google's recommended structure (as well as sending pings for every new post to all the non-specialized pingomatic.com sites, including weblogs.com)... and still can't get my entries picked up by Google Blog Search. I'm not running ads, either, Google's or otherwise. What's worse, scraper sites are turning up on Google Blog Search having totally copied my own entries, linking back to my blog, but my own blog somehow doesn't show up. When I search for my main page url, I get only one hit for a months old post...and it ranks fourth. The rest are blogs that have linked to me or scrapers. My blog *has* been listed in the past, but that was several months ago. I still don't know why my blog was delisted; I contacted blogsearch-support, but they gave me the brush off. I have no trouble ranking in Technorati, Sphere, you name it. Just GBS is giving me problems. Can't wait for that blog submission form they mention in the FAQ...any day now, right? Anybody have any advice, tips or tricks? Is there perhaps something I'm doing wrong that I haven't considered, or something I'm not doing that I should be? Any help is much appreciated.
One of my most heavily promoted Blogger blogs has the same issues that you've described. Domain is indexed by G and everything. Gets hits from MSN & Y!, but I can search GBlogSearch for content that is unique to my site and get 0 hits. Have u added your site feed to your G custom homepage and My Yahoo? You can also write a press release for your site which should help in more ways than one. AmCy
Do you think that your blog could have been rated as adult material and therefore filtered out by Blogger's Safe Search? Try this test. Go to Blogger Search and click on Advanced Search. Scroll all the way to the bottom and select "No Filtering". Now run a search on your blog. If you blog comes up then somehow your blog came under the SafeSearch radar and was flagged as inappropriate for all ages.
AmCy: I did add my blog's content to my Google Personalized page several weeks ago. SWN: I tried what you suggested, but checking the "no filtering" option had no measurable effect. Search results looked the same.
AmCy does this make your feed available to others who use My Yahoo and Google Custom page? I'm trying to understand the purpose of doing this. I'm still a little new at promotion so any info would be helpful.
The folks who run the important search engines out there are constantly trying to find ways of differentiating between the good content and the bad, the "white hat" content from the scaper sites. Adding your own feed to your custom G page, My Yahoo!, etc. may help to get your feed noticed by the bots as legit content. It's also a great way to test your feed to make sure it's working properly. If you were running for Governor, you would go to your local polling place and vote for yourself, right? Some reading: http://publisher.yahoo.com/rss_guide/whatis.php AmCy
