Trouble getting results from search bar

Hi, I thought I posted already, but I cant find it anywhere.... I am having problems getting the search bar script you offer to work. It shows up fine on my site, but I get a 404 error. I'm pretty sure that I'm listed with google, and I didnt change the search.php file except for the key, the site url and some minor tweaks. I left the comments in, although I dont think that is needed, but I didnt want to erase anything else. Please help me figure this out, is there any info I can provide that would help?

    Thanks very much

I have search.php in my root directory along with my index.html file, I also tried making sure I am listed with google, i'm pretty sure that I am, but that may take time.....could that be the problem? I submitted and got an account 2 days ago, and it still isnt working.....I also tried searching for my site on google.ca just now and it still isnt giving me any results, I assume that is a problem if google is doing some of the work.

Thanks again, I checked my server and search.php is in the root directory....I looked up some more info on php files, and found out I needed to start the file with <html><head>etc...is that correct? Like I mentioned I am new to this, so I didnt even think of it. Also, I left in all the comments that were included originally when i downloaded it, is there anyway for you to view my php file(could I send it somewhere), it is still not showing up when you type the url in the address bar.

Thanks very much for all your help

btw, i looked in my google account and it said verification is pending approval, I would assume this has a bearing on the file working correctly...BUT it still doesnt show up when you type in http://www.optimummentalhealth.ca/search.php and I know it is there. sorry for all the questions, but your help is greatly appreciated

No, you don't need <html> (or anything else) added to your PHP script.

Not sure... probably will want to talk to your hosting company to find out what the deal is.

I just found out that I have to upgrade my hosting account in order to run php scripts, I thought it was covered with the price I'm payin', so you were right on that one.....is there any way to add search functionality w/o using php directly?
    thanks again

Nope... you would need some sort of server-side programming language (in the case of this script it's PHP).
