I have a number of sites. All highly optimized. Great incoming links. Yahoo and business.com listings for most. They have been stuck on page 2 or 3 of google.com for a few months now and nothing that I do changes that. I'm ranking well on .ca. I'm located in canada but my hosting is in the us. The only reference to my address or location is my whois info. Is google raping that now? Any ideas guys? I'm struggling here and could really use some input. Thanks!
Well, I'm sure it's a combination of on-page and off-page issues that could be addressed. 99.9% of the time I can always find some on-page optimization issues with any website. Off-page wise you just need to continue building relevant quality backlinks. With these backlinks try to get as your anchor text the keyword or keyword phrase your trying to rank for.
Could be problem that most of your backlinks are from canada... So need more backlinks from US to get better rankings on google.com
I have a real estate website thats is doing better in Google.co.uk for some reason. could it be backlinks? I don't think I have many links from UK.
That's the thing...On page optimization is okay. Could be a little better I guess but it's pretty good. Backlinks are mostly from .com us based sites. Not too much in canada. I'm just phycially located in Canada. Any other ideas or thoughts? I am using my anchor text. That what got me to pg 2/3. Just having trouble getting beyond that on .com.
It isn't unusual to be stuck in a certain ranking range for a few months (or even longer) before finally moving higher. For Google, just the passage of time itself seems to be one of the main requirements for a higher ranking. So maybe you just need to be patient.
craigman, it's possible that you're doing a good job and just need to keep at it over time. Let me give some perspective from the keywords I track. BTW, I only track KWs that receive at least 25 daily searches, per Wordtracker, so that I'm not wasting time on no-traffic keywords. Here are the current numbers: • 24 keywords on Google's first page • 18 on Google's second page • 7 on Google's third page •• In sum, I have about the same amount on pages 2-3 as on page 1. I do essentially the same type of SEO on all of them. So keep at it, on-page and off-page. I find that, over time, page #2 keywords, if you continue to actively promote them, tend to creep onto page one. P.S. This assumes that you don't have some SEO errors on your pages. But I'm guessing that you're doing OK there and just need consistent, persistent, ongoing SEO over time.
Thanks guys. This does help. I'm not known for my patience. hehe. I gues it's just the waiting game now then. I don't think I have any on page errors. I have my metas in placce, header tags, keyword rich relavant content, alt and title tags and other optimized things like image names etc.
