Gtech please explain how keeping our forces in Iraq is "winning" or some how making terrorist "lose". They can keep fighting the way they are fighting now , forever, pretty much. It helps them recruit and train more fighters, in fact having forces in Iraq is great recruitment tool, everytime we kill one two more sneak in form Saudi Arabia, or wherever.

Please explain to me how we are safer now, or more secure since we invaded Iraq?

Terrible isnt it...more innocent life lost. Its highly unlikely anybody in those 2 houses was even involved...youd have to be pretty stupid to put a bomb outside your front door.

For what its worth, I hope Iraq can find its way to peace and achieve some sense of democracy in the long run, or at least a moderate level islamic state which is much more likely. Until Iraq's native police and security forces can take over, there will be no withdrawel, America cant afford another embarrassment like Vietnam. The EU would lap it up for one thing, and Bush would be out for another.

I guess the more time you spend in a war zone..the more likely it is your sense of reality becomes blurred, and what would seem horrific and inconceviable a few months earlier, now becomes somehow justifiable.

Its a heat of the moment type thing I guess...and I guarantee you that most of those involved are probably having nightmares as we speak. You dont do something like that and just forget about it...it stays with you.

If there guilty...they should receive life in prison. If they get a slapped wrist it just sends another message to the Iraqi civilian that we tolerate that sort of shit over here....your life means nothing..our soldiers can do what we want etc etc...Theres been enough bad publicity already. Guilty > Life...no excuses.

Is Iraq heading to civil war? What do you guys think...I certainly cant see withdrawel in the next 6 months.

During a war, I am not interested in information from journalists. I'm even less interested in information from politicians.

There is no way in hell either could be trusted as far as I could kick them down a flight of stairs.

Perspective / spin / target audience / media agenda / political agenda... corrupt the truth so badly.

If the investigators are allowed to report something, it may be worth reading about.

if there was a draft you would be the first one running back to "collage" or finding whatever it took to avoid it. Just like all your favorite politicians

Draft or no draft. I stand by my personal convictions and morals, I don't fight unjust wars, and I wouldn't fight one then either.

    We all make mistakes, Jeremy.

    Heat of the moment
    Spelling
    Grammar

To pick on a spelling mistake is pretty weak. The "joke" was never very funny to begin with.

Yes, we all do make mistakes, but, if you were in on the joke, you would not have said any of that.

The armed forces are a reflection of the society from which they are come from.

Just like there is good and bad in the society , there is good and bad in the armed forces.

I do not believe that this act was any pre-planned event or carried out on orders from Washington. It seems more like a spontaneous reaction by stressed out soldiers, who were tired of seeing their fellow soldiers getting killed all around.

Yes it is shameful and cannot justified by any means , but demonizing the whole army based on few stray incidents does not seem reasonable to me.

But, demonizing an entire group, based on the actions of a few, seems to be the order of the day around here.

Whether or not I WANT to read it over and over again seems to be irrelevant. I need only read a small handful of of the threads in here and I get reminded of it over and over again, without going and looking for it.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing, which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than him." -- John Stewart Mill (1806-1873)

John Stewart Mill knew the cowards of today very well in the 1800s. Perhaps he knew your family back then, yo-yo?

Are you talking about yourself. You are the one who constantly kissing the government and Bush ass and proclaim that they do no wrong. How are you risking anything to preserve the freedom and civil liberties?

It is people like yo-yo who stand against erosion of personal freedom and for what is right or wrong that are risking their personal safety in the age of "patriot act".

And you are the one that has spent/wasted over 2000 posts attacking the US, Christians, Jews and DMOZ in virtually every post with never a bad word (still) to say about a terrorist. But that wasn't my point and nor is your attempt to take my point off topic.

Right, it takes courage to claim your rights are eroded, but you can't quite put your finger on what rights. I could never presume to do a better job than Ben Stein:

I always have some bad words about you. A person like you who supports the massacre of civilian and specially children to achieve his own goal is a terrorist in my book and the majority of people; so I don't understand why you claim that I never say anything bad about terrorists? ;)
