Tried to edit footer in theme and WordPress site crashed. Cannot log in at all

I recently set my blog up with a new theme and have been messing around with things trying to get everything set up and looking good. The links in the footer were to a viagra site so naturally I tried deleting them only to get the message:

This theme is sponsored, all links in the footer should remain intact

Now I can't log into WordPress at all, the message above is shown whenever I try to see my website and I am really worried I've been hacked. I don't know what to do but I do know that there are over 100 posts on my blog and I'm dreading losing it all - yes I've got it all in Word documents still but that's going to be a hell of a lot of work.

Does anyone know what else I can do? I'm freaking out right now,

Are you hosting your own site or are you using the free wordpress.com site?

If you are you can just use FTP to put the whole theme back in the folders and it will work again or delete the file off the host and wordpress should revert back to the default theme.

I have done this a few times but I have backed up what theme I had and all that.

I was hosting my own site and although I managed to delete the file through FTP it had ruined my whole site -I couldn't even post anymore. I've ended up deleting everything and am now trying to decide what to do. Can I start from scratch and re-upload all of my content or will that be seen as duplicate content by Google?

I'm not sure how that would be seen in the eyes of the duplicate content issue. But, if you have the MySQL database still in tact then you may be able to connect to that again using a fresh wordpress install.

Ooh I think you may be right - I've just clicked on restore and this is what has come up:

Your database "extremesportsx_com" will have its backups restored within the next 5-10 minutes!

    Phew! Crisis AVERTED, eh?

Fingers crossed it works! I've just spent $70 on a theme so I hope my site is still intact.

It may have been a back up from a few days ago but then you won't have to worry about putting all the content back on.

Always a good idea to make sure you set the back up regularly.

The back-up failed so I'm going to do it all from scratch. I'll hopefully (with the help of Copyscape) be able to set the same URLs but it's gonna be a long process. Thanks for your help!

Same happened with me many times... Please check once again if you still have your database there.
You just need the wp_posts table. Rest tables can be remade.

Check your backup files too. They usually save the whole of the database.
I'm quite sure you'll have that.

If not, just search for site:YourBlogURL in Google and it will show all pages from your blog. Just click the cached linka nd copy everything from the cached copy to a new post with same URL.
