Do you mean you applied to be an editor many times? Or that you suggested a site many times?

All applications to become an editor receive feedback, so check that all the replies were not caught by your spam filter.
However, if you mean you suggested a site, it sounds like you completely ignored the advice on the form, which says to do so only once. Excessively repeated suggestions waste everyone's time and are likely to be seen as spam.

Perhaps you are unaware that DMOZ is not a listing service, so although suggestions are welcome, there is no time frame for them to be reviewed, let alone listed.

I did not apply to become an editor but I applied for the site. I suggested my site 2 years ago and then 3 months ago. Is that too many times?

Underestimated - They had a server crash in '07 and their apps queue wasnt recovered, so the submission 2 years ago basically never happened. The submission 3 months ago is probably sufficient.

SPORADIC RESULTS (AND WHY TO EXPECT 'EM)
Some categories get more attention than others simply because they have more active editors with an interest there (that part is basically a crapshoot). Two biggest downsides of the free add / volunteer driven model...
    1. They do not (and cannot) have someone standing by at all times, and they make no promises to do so. A queue can sit dormant for a LOOONG time in some areas, others are actively worked daily.
    2. Since they arent hitting a credit card for each submission... MANY people respond by spamming them out the wazoo, further burying the submissions queues in muck. This further slows the process.

    SUGGESTED CATEGORY
There are probably several spots any site would fit. If I were looking to place that one I'd try Arts: Chats and Forums.

    OTHER
Dont fall into the trap of losing sleep over it. Submit it with a reasonable title and description to the category it fits and then move forward with marketing/SEO/SEM methods that you CAN control. Worrying about one you cant is a total waste of energy. Good luck.

Actually, the AOL calamity was in December 2006, but robjones is correct that any Unreviewed suggestions from before 2007 were probably lost. There is no problem at all with suggesting a site a 2nd time. It merely overwrites the earlier one and appears with the later suggestion date.
Some editors view suggestions in date order, so naturally this means a delayed review, but otherwise it's not a problem for anyone.

The ones considered as spamming have suggested way more often than two or three times.

I thought it was late 06 but someone said 07 other day. Figures, my only mistake (ever) turns out to be the result of accepting that I was mistaken. :p

I'm sure you mean well, 3Deed, but I don't understand why you would post incorrect information when I have already confirmed that the AOL server Crash was in 2006 (Oct/Nov/Dec to be exact).
Functionality was largely restored to editors before 2007 even got underway, and in fact the public servers experienced almost no interruption at all. :)

Contact the Cat Editor for more information. Perhaps your site would be more relevant in another category.

Sorry but this is not good advice, for the following reasons:
    1. Editors are strongly discouraged from corresponding with webmasters, due to numerous bad experiences including real-life threats and stalking.
    2. Anything you need to know can be read in the public documents and forums anyway.

I sincerely hope you are referring to the deranged idiots who take a DMOZ listing so seriously that they are willing to be charged with a criminal offence.
For the volunteers who have suffered at their hands, it is definitely no laughing matter to have fears for yourself and your family.

I think the main thing DMOZ consider is your userbase, if its big enough to make a difference, youll be accepted, if you have a userbase of under 5,000 members, forget it

Yes , I am - I think its terrible.. But at the same time.. DMOZ is not GOD. I cant beleive I just heard you say people are stalking and threatening you. Those people are retarded.

I think people tend to overestimate Google and the DMOZ. To me, MSN and YAHOO combined kill my Google traffic - and im 1st two pages for some pretty competitive terms.

I recall reading in a forum many many years ago of death threats made against an editor by the owner of a christian site

I'm afraid it is much more recent than that, and not just one case, unfortunately. Sad and scary.

    No it's not.
There is a problem with the acknowledgement the sender receives, but the email does indeed reach the editor (sometimes many times over, in the case of people who believe that be repeating something many times will make it more effective  ).
But AOL is responsible for fixing "machinery" issues like that, and they have other priorities at the moment, like fixing the RDF dump.

It sending such an error message would be the definition of broken would it not ;)

How long has the RDF dump been on the fritz? The email issue has been around for MONTHS....when will communication be a priority for DMOZ or AOL?

Though, I've seen no evidence that the function works, but I have seen the error page. *shrug* Sounds to me with all the broken pages within the ODP maybe someone should remove them from DMOZ
