I recently had a blog that was a PR3 and after the last update dropped to a PR0. My traffic and SEO Rankings still seem solid.

So...with that being said, do we still put too much value on PR rankings? Links are always good yes....but is a PR4 link really better than a PR1 or PR0? Just throwin that out there.

Trust me....I love getting links from ALL SITES. :)

@djbill - It just shows you that you do not need high PR to rank well for your terms.

As for links, quality and relevancy of the link itself will serve you well. I would take a strong anchor text link inside the body of the content over a site-wide link on the same site, regardless of PR.

One example of that type of power is do a search for "remove nofollow". Over 1.7 million results. I bet you will find one of my blogs. That page's backlinks comes from, in large part, from other blog posts.

Oh so true. Rather than concentrating on the "quantity" of links, the quality of links will end up benefiting the sites much more. Traffic would be relevant and hopefully convert to revenue.

Chasing PR does little for bringing targeted traffic to a site.

I have a few comments here.

    1) You claim that it is an error to believe that an inner page with less PR does not carry the same weight as a home page with higher PR. Until you show proof, this is only a claim. You can't say others are wrong unless you are able to show that you are right. Can you?

    2) Ezine articles are not retroposted to an inner page after front page syndication. They are posted to an inner page initially, then also syndicated to the front page for a while. To guarantee credit for the front page PR you must have a banklink in your site within the article, and it must remain on the front page for 24 hours or at least long enough for Google to spider it. Even so, It's only single day's worth of homepage PR and we have no idea if there is an algo to handle that too.

    3) You ask why bother with articles at all if all you get is inner page PR since it will always be N/A. This you use as an argument to support your "theory" of main page weight through inner page links. But this does not support your argument because as many SEO/SEM techs will say, the reason you bother with the article is because you know that eventually, that article may carry weight and send relevant PR back to your site. In the meantime, it's another link from a new IP, and that helps once the article is crawled, albeit very little. You don't post for the 12 hours it appears on the front page, you post for the 12 months it may take for it to reach PR 6,7, or 8, if you are lucky and the article somehow merits link bait.

    4) A minor correction in what I think is a misnomer. You claim that others state one "loses" PR from an inner page. The term "lose" suggests something that was formerly gained is not gone. Since the inner page began with N/A, any increase from there is not a loss, but a gain. PR is not lost, it is filtered, filtered from high PR to lower; the affect of only passing a % of PR from one page to another, not 100%.

That said. And relating to your claim - I'm not saying it's false, I am saying that you have yet to prove it. I'm all ears. :)

I read most of the posts in this topic and signed up for Angela's free PR10 product. I'm convinced that this is indeed misinformation. I have a site that has 100 backlinks from 7 different websites PR1-4 that has a page rank of 3, which is the same page rank as Angela's site which has 3400 backlinks from hundreds of domains. So I'd say the proof is in the pudding....that's a whole lot of work for backlinks that doesn't seem to be paying off...

The way I see it, whether it helps to increase the PR or not, backlinks are a good thing.

It is not a question of whether or not links are a good thing. It is a question about getting 'good' links. Links that are high quality and relevant.

Spending your time and resources chasing links, for links sake, is not a strategy that I subscribe to, encourage, or advertise just to make a quick buck.

If all links are a good thing, then would you consider a high PR link from a porn site homepage? If so, then I will get you one right now and throw in a few casinos to boot.

Most people are so consumed with getting links that they completely disregard the development of their own websites. And quite frankly, it is no wonder most of these people do not have any legitimate links because their sites are not worth linking to in the first place.

Something you are doing is working.

I checked out your links, and not only are they numerous, but you have linkbacks from Wikipedia too.

Some may say that Wikipedia is NoFollow. This is true.

But can you imagine what it takes to get in there to begin with? Can you imagine what type of exposure that will give you?

It is not about the links. It is about what the links will give you in return.

If you want to chase links in some obscure profile page. And you think that profile page will give you some benefit. Do it.

If you think that large, massive quantities of links will make you rank better. Do it.

If it makes you feel better. Do it.

If bragging about any of the above translates into visitors. Do it.

Even if, you land a link on a PR10 website (only temporarily). Then Do It.

At the end of the day.

When you still are wondering why your site is NOT converting.
While you are still chasing link dreams.
While you are still wondering why 10's of thousands of links still have not raised you above a PR 3.

Then come back to this thread and truly understand why.

Yes, and yes. This is a standard addition for all of my clients. I get them all into wikipedia. For some it's very difficult. Or rather, getting in is easy, staying in is difficult. But some clients already meet the requirements, it's much easier then. It's not really that hard, with some effort you too can be "notable". Give it a shot.

Imagine my surprise when I had noticed that I was linked to from there. Natural links! It's extremely pleasing to know that someone values the content that I'm writing.

Those links are nofollow, yes. But let's just say the traffic they bring, as well as the conversions they bring is tremendous.

The links that I got today when they go live should be from some pretty powerful .edu domains, and a .gov domain.

The links I received today are ones that were acquired from a solicitation letter that I wrote. The people were more than accomodating, especially after they checked out the content on the site.

    I'm pretty pleased.
