Hello to everybody and to frequent NorthAtlantic travellers in particular!

I am travelling to London around the 22 and to Boston from London around the 24 from London.

    Nightmare, huh?

    Any tips to share?

My main concern is my precious laptop. How could I possibly pack it in my checked-in luggage? Have you seen how they handle it? How can a delicate laptop HD survive?

Anybody that travelled in the last few days to and from the UK and the US that can let us all know some useful info?

    Thanks!

    :)

This is the only answer i get from a UK airport security dept.
    Hope it helps..

    Dear Mr. Tan,

Thank you for taking the time to e-mail me with your concern.

With regards to your issue of your Laptop, unfortunately at this time the taking of this item into the Aircraft Cabin is not permitted as per the Department of Transport instructions.

These instructions a very specific and the Laptop must be placed in the Hold. I can only suggest that you contact the Handling Agent responsible for your flight and all issues of this nature, either Servisair or Aviance and ask for advice and assistance.

I’m sorry that this is the only solution I can offer you as my role is only to implement Department for Transport requirements.

I will however forward your e-mail to both Handling Agents for their information.

    Yours sincerely,

    Dennis Bailey

    Security and Safety Manager

I would not suggest putting it in your checked baggage, carry it with you on board.

EDIT: Just saw the above post, seems like you cannot carry it with you. Th only solution would be top put it in a box and a put a fragile sticker on it, use thermacol or bubble wrap for support.

OK, so I asked at an airport in Italy about travelling to London and only liquids are prohibited from being carried in the cabin.

And there was a sign instructing to carry only essential items.

Apparently at Heathrow the level of security was reduced and a laptop can be taken.

    Any fresh experiences?

    Thanks!

    :)
