I manage some hotel sites and I registered a .travel domain for one of them.

    cost is $99/yr

Once you have it registered and authenticated (can be a pain) you can set it up to rank high on search.travel for your searches easily through the admin panel.

We do not get a significant amount of traffic from it, but since it is a hotel site and a reservation is ~$200/night, it does provide a return.

search.travel is currently ranked 75,349 on alexa and seems to get a lot of international support (over 55% are from outside US).

    hope this helps some

You can find out more at http://www.tralliance.travel/ . Basically, it is not a free for all type TLD and it is only restricted to those in the travel and hospitality business.

I don't think it'll really take off at all. Also got restrictions & a very long extention, imagine having to type in .travel, 6 letters & people said that .mobi was too long!

As far as I know .travel is not at all a domain name but part of a series of subdomain names launched by www.new.net some years ago.

These subdomains are masked as domain names so in order to make them work people need to download a free browser plugin to make them viewable through the world wide web.

By the way, at new.net the registration starts at $25.50 and during its initial stage they offered .xxx domains, later discussed by ICANN
