Travel Directory

    Travel Directions is my first web directory.

    It is a topical directory, focused only on travel links.

    Please feel free you add your sites.

    I am now building incoming links to the site. I will appreciate any incoming links you can spare. :)

    I am thinking that I will add categories (and move links to new categories) as links appear.

    Of course, this is my first directory, so I am sure I will do a lot of dumb things as I learn. :)

    Hi Will,
    Excellent approach to building a directory. IMHO too many directories of late have been flooding the indexes with unfilled category and sub category pages. Too many have recently started with no true dierection. Good fortune with yours.

    Nice directory however you shouldn't allow the links to appear live right away and review the sites before posting them. If not fixed you may suffer huge ammounts of spam submissions.

    I submitted my site and then saw it already listed. I would suggest a duplicate link check upon submission...

    Also, the Destinations section seems to include a lot of general travel sites - there might be some way to split them up into smaller categories, but I'm not sure what that would be.

    New links appear right away, and then are quickly deleted if inappropriate. The level of spam links is about 5%, which makes it easier to delete the bad ones than to approve the good ones.

    Yes, I am aware that this is a very non-traditional strategy. Can you imagine DMOZ following such a policy?

    The duplicate check is currently done as a batch process. Unfortunately, the script in use does not support a duplicate check upon submission.

    Yes, the main "Destinations" category is too full. I'm still thinking that one over. :)
