What do you do with 'worthless' comments on your blogs? Not just blatant spam but comments that are basic and probably just trying to get a back link? E.g. you make a post about cheese and you gets comments such as "I like cheese" or "Cheese is good". Do you approve them or get rid of them?
Get rid of them, they are out to steal link juice from your blog, also such comments make your blog looks very unprofessional.
I get obvious linkjuice comments but so long as they leave a good comment I won't delete (however once in a while I will alter their anchor text).
Yeah, I don't mind if they contribute, I'm happy to approve them and give them a link back for any decent comments (blog is DoFollow after all). Thanks for the feedback guys, +rep.
You should keep them unless it's obvious spam. Users are just having fun, the fact they commented at all means they probably read all (or at least some) of your post. I'd let them go, makes you blog seem more popular too. But it's a matter of opinion in the end
I would also have to agree to this in some respects. I would only allow a few of them but if it starts going "over the top" then I would start deleting a few. You also don't want these crummy comments to be sitting on top and all the really good ones to be buried by these ones, so its really up to you and it does have further complications.
As long as the comment showed some level of reading was done, I will keep them just to appreciate the work done The number of comments can also provide encouragement to other readers to comment
I've been known to leave just a [] in a comment box on someone else's blog who left a worthless comment on mine. Squatters know what they are doing and equally don't appreciate a crappy comment on their blog too. I'd keep the comments though.
I hate the 'I agree' comments, but then again some people don't even have a site with which they are spamming me with. So really I don't mind them as long as they are not absolute spams!
I leave them if it appears the commentator actually read the post, but the "drive by" type comments usually get deleted (especially if there's a spammy link attached to the author's name, which is coincidentally stuffed with keywords )
I have recently made my blog a 'do follow' blog and I haven't noticed any spam comments as of yet! I moderate all comments, and if the person leaving the comment wasn't contributing to the post, I would delete it! Although, if the comment was one saying they enjoyed the post and they did seem to have read the post, I would keep the comment.
