Transparent background with Fireworks

I have created some text which is over a graphic image. Now I want to have the text background to be transparent so that I can see the image behind the text, rather than a white box.

    How can I do this?

Save images as .png's or as .gif's with transparent background.

The text is created in Fireworks so saving the image with a transparent background surely won't do it. My image is text, with a graphic behind the text. That composes one image file. Make sense?

Can you post here the image ?
When you write some text in fireworks it have no background...You have some bad settings in fireworks I think.

you said there's a graphic behind the text. as far as i understand, it will surely not allow you to save your image with transparent background. try removing the image behind the text and save your image to png

Not sure if I understood your dilemma correctly. If you want the image behind to show through the text then you can set the transparency for the text (select it first) in the properties box.

If you want the background behind the image to be transparent check to see if the canvas color is set to 'transparent' (modify > canvas > canvas color > transparent).

If there is white in the background of the imported image then you will need to remove the background (cutout) using the 'lasso tool'. Export as a .gif with transparency or save in png format.

I think (i could be wrong) he means that he flatened the image WITH the background that is not transparent "into one composed image file".
