Hello, I have no idea if I should or shouldn't use a WP translator plugin. Back in the day when they first came out everyone stayed clear from them, except for the blogs that wanted to be translated into English. But now they've fixed the bugs with them and nofollow for spiders. Many of my hits come from different countries and all the talk about how HUGE blogging is getting in some asian countries etc...... I still couldn't find any info on if its a good idea or not. Almost everything I found was old articles. And if was such a good idea.....Why don't any of the BIG Dogs Have one on their Blogs? (shoemoney, chow, problogger etc...) Any legit advice would be appreciated
Hi, I think the using a translator plug in depends on your audience , if you are getting lots of traffic from a certain country that is not English you may consider adding it. As for shoemoney and chow I think since most of there traffic is from US English is enough for them
The auto translate plugins tend to translate word for word using google translate api or babelfish and it isn't commercial grade stuff, afaik if it's javascript-based so search engines don't index it and it doesn't get you traffic. I did not find it a very attractive option. I used wp multilingual for a site and that works fine, they offer an integrated translation service at 7cts/word, 2 to 3 bucks per post in any language. It does require more maintenance, but like rumbling says if you target a specific foreign market or get lots of traffic from it, go for it.
