Transferring Wordpress to a new server

I just sold a wordpress blog recently, and now I'm trying to transfer it to the new owner's server. I downloaded all the files and uploaded them to the new guy's host. Then I exported the mysql db and imported it into a new database on his server. I also changed the wp-config file to reflect this.

However, when I go to the site, I get a 404 error on the content. The wordpress theme shows up fine, its just in the content area where I get a 404 error. Here's the link: http://neptune.myserverhosts.com/~organic/

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Could it have something to do with modified permalinks on the original site?

    Much thanks in advance,
    Colin

On the Options page, have you updated the blog address to reflect the new site? I noticed all of the links are still pointing to organicword.com which no longer seems to be the URL.

After moving everything over, did you update the permalinks?

Thats just a mirror of the host the guy gave me to show its incorrect. Do you think the problem is the mirror, and that it will work when the dns is changed? The real URL is organicword.com, however, the dns has not propagated yet, so its still showing the original site.

It is possible it is a mirror issue, as it might not be resolving properly with this url. By any chance do you know or can you have this other person test with the IP of the server as opposed to this mirror name? Maybe that would have different results.

Just wait for the DNS propagation and it should work fine so long as all info in the config file is correct.

    Colin,

I just bought a WP site and had a heck of a time getting it set up correctly. My problem had to do with a db upgrade. I eventually solved it by installing a fresh WP, copying the files and importing the db. The db had to updated but all seems ok.

    Hope it helps if needed.
