Hi. As you're probably aware, just over a week ago, i launched wwwopoly mmpog (see sig.) I've been working on it since christmas, all of it is a result of my own hard, unpaid labour. The first week it registered 100 users, the next 3 days, it registered another 100, last night, it registered another 50. It's growing at a stagering rate. If it keeps going at this rate, it's predicted to hit 300 registered users on friday and gain 1500 users over the next 2 weeks. So i go to my hosts website as i was going to contact them regarding putting a "hosted by domainbag" on the bottom of my site, and i see this: I could of actually cried. the wwwopoly database, forum database, domain and hosting are all held there! Wwwopoly is the first project i've undertaken which could be considered "successful" and now i have to move it all. Domainbag gave me unlimited everything (bandwidth, storage, mysql, emails) for just £4 a month (explains why they had to shut down i suppose) and now i have to transfer it. But as i mentioned, im new to administering sites that recieve more than 100 unique hits a day, let alone transfering them. On the same hosting package, i have 2 other sites (cgfreelance.net and sportsstop123.com) which need transfering. I barely know anything! the resources for the other 2 sites will be minimal (i mean 3 mysql databases, maybe 10mb diskspace, next to no bandwidth.) Wwwopoly is a different story, i dont know how big its going to get or how quick. I don't know how much to pay for hosting, where to go for hosting or anything. i don't know where to start. Does anyone have any tips, or even better, does anyone want to VOLUNTEER their services and help me transfer all this stuff. I'm a total novice at it, so i'd prefer someone with some experience and skills. Please, any help is welcome. first off though, what sort of hosting package should i go for? Thanks in advanced. Dom.
Are the sites still active ? Actually when hunting for a new web host, you can ask them if they can help you transfer your two sites over. I am sure they be more than happy to do so in order to retain your business. If Domainbag uses Cpanel, you just need to find a new web host which uses the same. It is very easy for the web host to move your site over. They have the tools to do it. For the time being, log into your Cpanel then go to 'Backups' and then do the backup of the home directory, database and the email alias. This way, you will have a permanent copy on your computer of the site and database. Also do a Generate/Download a Full Backup and then when it is done, FTP into your account and download the .gz file too. This you can give your new web host who can restore the site for you. Like I say, the first option is to get a good web host, prefably one that does not give you unlimited everything and one which uses Cpanel. You can find a number of them at http://www.webhostingtalk.com . As for package, it is difficult to determine at the moment. But looking at what you say, 10mb is not going to be a problem. Most web host will have no issue accomodating that.
I will help transfer your files for free if you need me. What you need to do is find a web host (I recommend knownhost.com), and sign up with them. Contact me if you want me to transfer them for you. I know how frustrating things like this can be.
