Transferring domain to new registrar so can point to new host - question about emails

    Hi,

Bit complicated but my domain is hosted with Plus.net. I had hosting with a private company. Now I've brought hosting at EUK host. I want to point my domain at Plus net to the new hosting at EUK host. I took my nameservers and tried setting it up but it wouldn't work, then Plus net said I'd have to transfer my domain to a new registrar to point to the nameservers I requested.
So I'm going to transfer it to Go Daddy and point to the new nameservers from there.
However the email for the website has been provided by Plus.net (several mailboxes with each mailbox connected to versions of Outlook Express). I'm wondering how can I keep all of these emails when I transfer the domain registrar?

Is there a way of definitely making the emails secure, saving them so that when I'm with my new domain registrar (and new webhost) people can still access their emails?
Also does anyone know roughly how long its likely that the email for the website will be down when making the switchover?

Really grateful for any help offered.
    Thanks

    Hello Bad,

Depending on what control panel you have you can download backups from cpanel and upload them to your new account.

Also you wont have any downtime if both hosting accounts are up when you have the switch over, as it should just look like nothing has ever happend or changed. If you ask your host they will usually help you move all your stuff over, most host's do this.

    Regards,
    Adam

Unfortunately don't have access to cpanel at my current host. They're pretty poor, not too sure if I'll be able to get hold of a backup of the emails.

I'm a bit unsure because I emailed EUK host (new host) and Godaddy, asking who's responsible for the emails if I switch host, and EUK said they would be and Godaddy also said they could manage the emails... anyone know which would have access, I presumed the new webhost (EUK host) would be in control as they would be the host..

    Thanks for the help.

    Hello Bad,

First off, your old host would have the emails still, in ftp there should be a folder that holds all the emails in cpanel file manager, its called mail looking and under neath it all your mail is kept there for that domain, that needs to be copied to your new host, to keep all the emails that are in your inbox at this current moment of time.

    Regards,
    Adam

Download a full cpanel backup from your existing hosting and tell your new host to restore it on their server. Goto Godaddy and point your domain to new hosting. Now you have all the old emails and you can receive new emails too.
