Transferring a domain to a new host?

I'm thinking of transferring my domain name from yahoo webhosting to an web hosting (their thanksgiving plan, check it out)

How long does it take for the domain transfer to take place, and will my site be down at all? Also, once the transfer is complete can I cancel my hosting account with yahoo? Thanks

No, I do not believe you can redeem the money if you prepaid for a year or whatever you forked over. Learn from your mistakes.

you can request money back for nothing. just if you'll prove that Yahoo offers poor quality hosting services [and i think that's out of discussion].

changing nameservers should be done really quick.

My suggestion to you would be to transfer your domain to one of the bigger players in the domain field. Keep your nameservers as they are. Once that is done get your new hosting, move your files and changes the nameservers.

By doing it this way you will have control of your domain and it can not be held hostage at some point in the future.
