Transfering domain to godaddy

I have all my hosting with lunarpages.com. I am very happy with my hosting there, but not happy about the newly raised prices on domains. I have started buying all my domains with godaddy.

But I have domains that are close to renewal time, and I think $19.95 is ridiculous price lunarpages wants to charge for each domain. Is the process of transfering a domain easy? I am afraid there will be alot of downtime, or lunarpages won't cooperate very quickly. Anyone know how long this process takes? And if anyone has transferred a lunarpages domain anywhere?

Transfers can happen in as little as a few days if you do it right. I know that Godaddy will make you manually accept the domain being transferred so watch for that. Also the registrar you are transferring from may need you to authorize the transfer. If all your ducks are in a row you should be able to do it seamlessly and just change your nameservers to your hosting as soon as it'saccepted to godaddy. I doubt you will have much down time.

$19.95 ,wow, it's a high price. If you have another choice in your mind, just think it twice, transfering is not always an easy thing.

yeah, they used to be $7.95, so I always thought might as well just add them on with them, make it easy, since it was my hosting company. Then one year they up it to 12.95, now a whooping $19.95, it is ridiculous.

Transferring to Godaddy (<-- link points to a tutorial I wrote) is relatively quick, especially if you manage both accounts: the old account and the godaddy account. Otherwise, it's a lot of back and forth between yourself and the person that you're getting the domain name from.

Just a fair warning as I have found this out recently. You can get listed under resellers albeit your name appears to be in a major registrar. For instance although I have an account with enom. My domains actually fall under a sub account in Enom managed by a reseller who jacks up my prices so he makes a profit and enom makes a profit. I don't know how I fell under a reseller's sub account seeing as how I created my account through ENOM.com unless the domain pushed to me was already under this reseller account. Case in point it adds a few dollars to all renewals which can be killer if you domain in bulk.

Make sure to accept the transfer as soon as the other hosting company transfer it over. This way your site will not have any down time. I would also read any terms with new hosting for domain names some offer cheap domain names then price goes up after first year.

godaddy renewal cost is much cheaper, you can transfer for < $10. There will be no downtime, just select donot change nameserver option in domain transfer page.
