Transfering a new domain...Do u have to wait?

I registered a domain about 3 weeks ago, and someone emailed me randomly and wanted to buy it. I thoght I heard somewhere that you have to wait 30 or 60 days before you can transfer it...is this correct? Or can I transfer it right away?

I have transferred immediately after purchase in the past, unless the registrar you buy with has some kind of policy, check beforehand.

I think the rule is that you have to wait 60 days before transferring between registrars, and that applies to everyone, but you can transfer a domain between different accounts at the same registrar at pretty much any time.

oo okay I think that is what has happened.. I belong to registerfly and the person wanted it pushed to another provider. I tried to complete the transaction, unlocked the domain name and waited a week, but got an email saying my domain was in locked status and couldn't transfer.. (even though it was unlocked).

You can just tell the buyer to temporarily register at registerfly/your registrar and then push the domain across to his account, its ok to transfer between accounts within the same registrar. That way the buyer can get the domain and if he/she wished could move it later after the 60 days to their normal registrar.

I agree with sji2671 on that - I have accounts with three or four registrars just so that people can push domains to me easily, thus completing a sale straight away. I can then transfer them to my main registrar at a later date if I want, and because I'm on both sides of the transaction it makes authorising the transfer request much easier.
