I sold a site recently and I want to be able to let them transfer the domain to their own account. How do I do this?

The process is much faster if the buyer has an account at the same place you have the domain registered. The entire process can take as little as 2 hours at Godaddy.

You go where it is registered. Unlock the domain if it is locked. Then you initiate a transfer to the buyer. All you absolutely need is the primary email address they use for their account. The rest of the info you can fake.

You and they will get an email. Then the buyer must accept the transfer. When they do you will get a cancellation notice for the domain. That is just your registeration of it. I mention this because the first time it scared the heck out of me.

Pretty much like what Colbyt has mentioned. Normally we use the word, push, to mean transferring of domains within the same registrar. This is the quickest way to transfer the domains to your clients.

How to push domain within the same registrar:

Under NameCheap, check out the push domain user options.

Under Godaddy, check out the Account Change option.
