Transfering a domain after expiry?

    Hello,

I've been hunting for hours now to find the official ICANN policy on transfering an expired domain name from 1 person to another within the same registrar.

Does anyone know the official policy?

Say a domain expired at Domainsite on the 1st, could the owner of that domain push it to another owners Domainsite account 2 weeks after expiry?

Would this be legal, because from what i have read so far the only person who can renew the domain after expiry is the original owner.

Big rep points for a link to the official word on ICANN's site, because i'm blowed if i can find anything.

    Thanks.

    Right here:

    http://www.icann.org/transfers/policy-12jul04.htm

    The one you're looking for:

    http://www.icann.org/transfers/dnholder-faq-03nov04.htm

However, it can be potentially risky transferring an expired domain name. If it
is near the end of its grace period (if any) with the current registrar, it might
    not transfer out on time.

I would think it would be easier to renew it as soon as you can then push it out. Charge the new owner the renewal fee. In the end, it is either you pay or he pays.

    - the link and the ino you provided belong to transfer of domain between two registrars, while sweetfunny is asking about policy on transfer of domain between two customers within one registrar.

I don't think there is any ICANN policy about that.
I have used more tahn 8 registrars and used this type of domain transfer within registrar, all registrar have different way of moving (push or transfer) domian between their customers. After expiry one registrar offer special link, couple of ragistrar offer supportdesk request while one simply allow it by a renewal/transfer link for expired domains within their panel.

You need to study the Domainsite agreement and policy as they are the registrar in case.

Thanks to everyone who replied, green rep given all round.

Looks to be a grey area, as i couldn't find anything on Domainsite either.

Well it's one thing i would of though had policy governing the transfer of expired domains.

The reason i'm asking is, i had some names transfered to me and in Domainsite's control panel it listed the expiry as next year. I updated my contact details, added my name servers and the sites were live.

About 2 weeks later, they vanished and according to Domainsite expired weeks before they were transfered to my account.

Needless to say, very pissed at the money i invested in the domains, websites and the fact this could occur.

I know i will NEVER buy or register a domain from Domainsite as long as i live.

Whoops, sorry about that. That's what happens when I'm hyper and I don't
    read closely.
